I'll probably get wanked for this, but even if the brother was a slut, there's still a million ways for the girlfriend to have not gotten pregnant. Get on the pill, make loverboy use a condom (But it doesn't feel good, b'awww. :'(), or maybe try closing her goddamn legs. Just saying.

I'm not saying the guy isn't at fault, calm down for a second. Just saying that even if he's the horniest sex-fiend on the face of the planet, in the end, I think the girl usually has more control (or lack thereof) on the situation.

Or loverboy could take the responsibility himself of using a condom and not relying on the girl to REMIND HIM. Responsibility for birth control is a two-way street. Stupidity is no more excused in men than it is for women.

In any case, you can still get pregnant even if you're using a condom or you're on the Pill. You can get pregnant if you're doing both. Contraception is great, but it isn't 100% effective.

Condoms can fail. Birth control can fail. Teenagers are stupid and are going to have sex either way. Sometimes they're unlucky and get pregnant. This can happen to complete idiots. This can happen to intelligent people. Someone does not have to be a slut to get knocked up at a young age. They just have to have sex. Maybe even just once.

I made no judgment call about the situation, positive or negative (because it's not my place and there are so many variables in each individual situation). I merely asked a question in response to a horrible double standard that is prevalent everywhere (two teens have sex, but the girl is obviously a promiscuous idiot, and nothing is said about the boy).

Telling women to "close [their] goddamn legs" is a terribly misogynisticc view that women have been fighting for a long long time, and are still fighting, and still losing because of people like you. 'A woman doesn't have as much of a desire for sex' is a mindset that has been used to justify spousal abuse and rape. Women have suffered greatly because of these kinds of attitudes. Women have had their lives ruined because 'they were asking for it'. Just...no. It's not acceptable that people should sill believe this kind of archaic idea in this day and age.

Woah long thread and coming in late.

Anyway, my two cents - while yes, ideally both parties should share responsibility when it comes to birth control and such, the fact remains that it's the chick who's getting pregnant and her who's going to end up with the lion's share of responsibility at the end of the day - and it's in her best interest to keep tabs on her own body. A guy can't get pregnant so of COURSE he's going to care less about the outcome of boinking (unless STDs are a concern as well, which is another ballpark I won't get into).

Yes, it takes two to tango, but a guy can't decide if a girl will take a morning after pill, or go to a doctor and get a pregnancy test, and he CERTAINLY can't make her get an abortion. It's not necessarily 100% the girl's fault, but it's her body and therefore her responsibility to deal with the result. It's not fair, no, but biology isn't fair, and it's not something that you can change. Outside of fanfiction.

I hardly think anyone with an idea of what that situation's like could possibly be unaware of the reality... the issue is whether or not we (not just women - everyone) should have to stand for that. I think the answer's no. If a guy professes disinterest in sharing the burden of an unwanted pregnancy, his girlfriend has the right to decline having sex with him, and yes, while I realize this isn't always an option for the girl , we as a society can influence the outcome by changing our fucking attitude about the whole thing.

It's not enough just to warn women about taking care of their own bodies - there should be social punishment for those men who fail to respect their partners' bodies. So the point is not that girls should have it easy - it's that they shouldn't have to have it so hard.
