Most baffling statement you've seen/heard recently

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll put mine in a comment below.

I just saw someone, in direct response to a friend on a forum wishing for everyone including American Muslims to stay safe, claim that Muslims never face backlash. Said person is an American.

I've been trying to formulate an answer to them but all words fail me. Just... what?

Ah yes, I'll just tell the racists in my country to stop burning down houses for the asylum seekers and blaming immigrants for it. Maybe we'll have more space for them then!

My flatmate told me that she was keeping her boyfriend a secret from her parents because he's ginger and her parents hate gingers.

I can just about understand being prejudiced against people with different culture no matter how much I disagree with it, but being prejudiced against someone for having a different hair colour? Very possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Re: Most baffling statement you've seen/heard recently

(Anonymous) 2015-11-22 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed

I'm sorry but if your biggest beef with your child's SO was their hair color, than you are a really stupid person.

Isn't the anti-ginger sentiment rooted in anti-Irish sentiment though? I understood it was a British/Irish thing. Not that I agree with it, I think it's bloody stupid, but right there is your "prejudiced against a different culture" thing.

I don't just want to kill ISIS; I want to bleed it dry. Blowing up their oil fields and freezing their bank accounts is great, but their real weakness is workers. They're already struggling to staff hospitals now that so many doctors have fled, and I want to see their entire infrastructure grind to a halt as the people who keep the system going disappear out from under their noses.

The comments made by the trollhards here who think whining about refugees is edgy or something.

ETA: Meaning refugees = a bad thing.

The sad thing is it's not really baffling just unfortunately unsurprising.

No, refugees = a huge cost. Our economy already sucks, so suddenly having to find housing, food and money for thousands of refugees is one hell of a problem.

Plus our police are stuck with handling their applications = less time patrolling the traffic, less time solving crimes.

Our government has to cough up hundreds of millions to pay for the extra costs they bring, and this all happens while they are cutting from education, social welfare, and just about everything except the costs of immigration, so yes, all these refugees are not a good thing.

I recently had to explain to an elderly gentleman with a turban and a freshly waxed mustache that the shoe store where I'm working doesn't sell many shoes with zippers. He took several tries to understand this, and finally went "then how do you put them on?" I have no idea if shoes with zippers are a common thing in his home country.

Jessica Jones spoilers

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-11-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw a post from twitter on tumblr earlier that said "david tennant is too hot to need mind control like if he said something I'd do it without persuasion". They posted it with "the most unrealistic part of Jessica Jones".

There were really no words for that post. (Like, would you murder for this random guy you saw on the street? If you would, please get help immediately.)

But they seemed serious about it too! They tried to explain that David makes no sense in the role (and should have been 'ugly' I guess?) because everyone would want to give him what he wanted given that he's attractive. (Whaaaaaaaaaaat? I don't know about you but I don't go around doing everything hot people say because they 'deserve' it.)

Clearly what he wants in the show is everything from "having this person relay a message" to "having them cut off another person's face" to "having them blow their parents brains out after raping them". Like...no. No.

Maybe I'm overreacting as this person couldn't have been thinking of the more serious implications, but it just...ugh.

"Linkle's clothes and crossbows are the most impractical thing in Hyrule Warriors."

Yeah, fighting in a dress/wearing as little as Cia or killing things with a balloon makes so much sense.

"Do you want a bigger cart?" Said by the cashier once I'd already started putting my items on the belt. Um, why at this point?
