NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck you! No! I could have taken just about anything, but not this.

FUCK.

*Reaction of someone who has just learned FFVII will be episodic*

*Weeps*

One of the most beloved worlds to explore will not have an explorable world.

I would have gleefully accepted a massive price increase. I would have taken less than cutting edge graphic. I was prepared to take bog-teir voice acting. but not this. never this. why even live?

This would have been a great secret. :(

Literally just heard about it.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This was honestly the first thing that dented my enthusiasm for this :/ BUT they released a statement later today that makes me a bit less worried about it than I was at first:

"It means instead of concluding in one entry, multiple entries are being considered in development. Each entry will have its own unique story. As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game."

That's way better than say a 5 hour episode followed by 3+ months of waiting. Sounds like maybe they are making the entire Compilation. I don't want to speculate too much though at this point. It seems they may say more at Jump Festa.

This is making me excited, honestly.

I never played the original and I have no desire to. I just can't get passed the crap graphics. I lnow they were great for the time. I have some nostalgia for certain games on the N64. But when your first foray into FF games was FFX and then the "spin off" with Kingdom Hearts, well...those old PS1 graphics are terrible.

And if they do either a KH style game play or a FFXIII style game play (or some mix of both, though i have no idea how that would work), I'll be happy. I like both play styles a lot.

And if the episode thing is gonna basically be full games to make a whole, then I am down and I am saving for a PS4.

And yet, the only scenes shown in the trailer are for Midgard. I'm not holding my breath.

SE confirmed for never learning what made their games so great

Re: NO!

You mean, Square Enix confirmed for still not knowing how to make a Square Enix game.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
If they'd turned it into a cover shooter like the last thing I'd heard I can't really care, as turn-based jRPGs should've died 15 years ago anyway. This episodic thing is utter nonsense though.

Why milk their greatest cash cow once when they can do it a bunch of times?

Ugh.

Oh... is that what it means? I thought they were going to release a little bit of the story as development went on, and in the end all of the "episodes" would amount to the full world exploring experience. :^(

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
We literally know nothing other than it'll be episodes.

you know, the same way it was discs before. :/

It's just fanbrats being disappointed they can't have their 1:1 remake ratio with super amazing graphics and all the bells and whistles without paying some kind of price.

I'm a bit wary but reserving judgment until more news comes out. It could possibly be executed well, but there's too little info to know for sure right now.

I can definitely understand why people would hate it though.

Watch them pull a Kingdom Hearts with this and put it on a million difference consoles.

Re: NO!

Some of the other, newer FF games are on different consoles, so why wouldn't this be? SE games aren't a Sony exclusive anymore.

I was prepared to be disappointed by square when it came to the FF7 remake, but I have to admit I wasn't expecting this particular brand of disappointment lmao. considering KH3 and FF15 are essentially mythic games at this point, I assume this means that they'll just release bits and pieces (if even that) of FF7 for the rest of my life.

Re: NO!

[personal profile] dratinis 2015-12-08 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
"When will KH3 come home from the war" is what baby!me used to say. Now I know better. It's never coming home. Ever.

Re: NO!

Big deal, wake me when it is a side scrolling 64bit platform game. That I'll queue up for.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
You might have, but most fans won't. The episodes just mean they can take their time and give us the full, polished experience to its fullest. That doesn't mean a less open world. It means you'll eventually open up the entire world and be able to explore it freely, with beautiful graphics and a fully fleshed-out world.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, you're being too hasty imo.

My read on the comment was that they're planning to release it almost like Mass Effect was, with the larger overarching story expanded and broken up into multiple games.

As much as I would love it if they could magically turn FF7 into a modern game, it's not that simple and would be the sort of undertaking that tbqh I'm not sure ANY modern studio could do. Because it wouldn't be enough to just give it an HD facelift. They have to remake the entire game world. Every single bit of it that they want to show they have to build.(They HAVE TO make serious changes, as well. Godzilla-sized Cloud running around on a low-rez map just doesn't cut it nowadays.)

Breaking up longer stories into multiple games gives the devs a lot more freedom to expand and polish each segment, and lets the company earn money in the midst of development to KEEP development going.

Square knows that if they screw this up it could be the end of their company.

Remaking open worlds is hardly impossible. They could take a few notes from Bethesda on the topic.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
All of this really. I feel positive with the added statement they did today, which makes it seems less episodic than it did at first (which made me think Telltale) and more that it's just the story broken up in larger parts like a multi-game series.

As for the overworld map, I don't even want one to be honest. It feels a bit dated. While it makes the world seem large it also makes it feel empty as there really aren't that many locations in the game. I would much rather have something like they did in XII, or large fields as they had in the latter part of XIII, or even what they seem to do in XV.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the sounds of butthurt fanbrats who aren't getting a graphically upgraded 1:1 remake of their pet game. It gives me life.

I'm gonna enjoy them making the game they're going to make because the fact they're putting it in episodes tells me that they're going to take their time and make it the best they can make it.

Re: NO!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I wish people would just have a tiny bit of faith in Squeenix and not just jump down their throat at every teeny bit of news. And that the people who want exactly the same game as the original to just go play the old one.

ITT: People who literally don't know how the game industry works or how expensive it is

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
To be less facetious than my title: the game industry has been struggling. They're actually underselling games at those $60 prices people complain about. As in they're underpriced for what goes into them. It's kind of the same way with the animation industry. But people don't care so long as they get their fix, and then when someone suggests what's likely to be a cheaper alternative that doesn't see their workers even more overworked, they complain.
