I got Ella Minnow Pea for Christmas and it was everything I wanted it to be. I love stuff that plays with language the way this book does and it developed a kind of absurdist dystopian feel that I really enjoyed.

Before Star Wars came out, a coworker friend and I were planning to see it together this week and talking all about how hard it would be to avoid spoilers until now. Turns out, he went ahead and watched it last week. Granted, so did I with my family, but I was perfectly willing to act like I hadn't and watch it a second time with him as if it were my first. But by the time he admitted to having seeing it, I wasn't in a spot to walk that lie back.

So, we were going to see it today, but the roads are really icy and I didn't want to get out. So we pushed it tomorrow, and probably the shitty theater in town because I'm still not sure how much a trust the weather and highways to get to a good theater.

Problem is, the more I think about it, the more I think I'm just not sure I want to go. He doesn't want to see it in 3D, I'd kind of like to experience it once that way before it's not an option for me, and I'm not a terribly social person to begin with. Making plans to do something with a person who isn't family or a childhood friend takes some serious mental effort. So, I'm kind of thinking I'd rather cancel and maybe on Wednesday go by myself to the good theater.

But that seems kind of mean or something.

I sometimes worry that I'm not actually a lesbian. Does anyone else get this? I sometimes worry that maybe I've just been so thoroughly bombarded with women being sexualized that i've absorbed the male desire to fuck women through some kind if brainwashing. Is this as absurd as it sounds? It's really bothering me.

Trans-people in the MRA

How come there are so many trans-people in the MRA? I know, you type Trans and MRA in a thread when you want to troll, but this is really is a legit question. Take it how you will, but I am really puzzled by whyy are so many people in the Trans community flocking to the MRA? What do they get out of it? What possible benefit can a marginalised group gain from signing on with the misogynist army? It's not social approval, because let's be honest, most right minded people hate the MRA. Do they just think "Well if the public is going to hate me, let it be for something I can control"??

Trans-women, I can sot of understand, they were born with male privilege (another troller buzz word, sorry) so maybe the warped perspective offered by the MRA speaks to them, Maybe they havn't discovered exactly how horrible the real world is for women, and where the MRA sit's in regards to that, but there are entirely too many Trans-men in there with them. What makes someone born a woman, living a large chunk of their life as a woman, and then when they transition abandon all the morals / sense of rightness / whatever it is that keeps normal people from going over to the MRA. I just don't get it and I would really really like to.

Tiny Houses

Okay, so I've been seeing this new trend going around about people living in tiny houses. Like 100 to 400 square foot houses hooked onto trailers so they can be moved around.

Personally, I don't get it. I mean, what do they have that any other mobile/trailer homes/RVs don't have? Is it just a novelty thing? Are they more efficient? Is it people just wanting to be different?

I mean sure, some of them do look rather charming in a quaint little way. That still doesn't explain why it's becoming the new thing though.

What do you guys think?

They are cheaper than a large home, and generally tend to have a lower carbon impact in construction and maintenance.

I wouldn't want a tiny house myself unless it were up a tree so I can live my 12-year old self's Rivendell dreamz. If I'm gonna own a small place I just want a condo/townhome/regular mobile home.

I really really really want one myself, actually!

I think they're adorable, but mostly I want one because 1. they're hella cheap and 2. they seriously reduce your impact on the environment. Oh, and they're so much easier to maintain than large houses. Bonus points if it's portable, which would also mean I don't have to maintain a yard.

It definitely also helps that I like small spaces. I feel cozy when I'm closed in. I'm fascinated with the way people manipulate space to meet their storage needs. I would be challenged to be less materialistic by getting rid of the stuff I couldn't store and I feel that would be a good thing.

And like I said, some of them are really cute. I especially like the modern ones. <3

There's no way I could live in one (I need a garden man. The smallest I was willing to go is a 500ft square land and I have hopes of my place on the woods one day...)

But I can see the appeal for those who like the small or the movable and they're much much more affordable than a land bound house. Cute too. And if you don't like where you are you can up and leave.
