K (anime)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone seen it? Netflix seems to have lost a bunch of its anime so I started this one, which I've never heard of. The female fanservice is absolutely ridiculously gratuitous. But... I am fairly confident that the main two guys are gay. I mean they probably aren't because I feel like I would've heard more gushing about it from somewhere on the internet, but the main character seems rather shamelessly hot for the black haired one. Lots of blushing, calling him "my wife" (even as a joke), doesn't seem interested in any female character.. I want to believe that this show is trying to compensate, by targeting this show toward male audiences but still being able to get away with them being gay.

Of course I'm only on like episode 6 so. Fingers crossed I guess. I'll happily take a Tiger and Bunny level of gay, even.

Re: K (anime)

Apparently according to my friend the ones who were probably gay are the dead guy and the guy with red hair, I don't remember her shipping the main two guys so I can't comment on them.

Also it seems that S2 isn't very good.

I liked K quite a bit. It's definitely a matter of individual preference, but I liked a lot of the characters and it is quite pretty.
The fanservice is completel through the roof for every watching group, so much it gets ridiculous at times. There are at least 3 slash ships that are intentionally slashy just for the fujoshi viewership - and they are not even a little subtle about it (considering merchandise etc.) - at the same time, they do a lot of jiggling boobs and very silly pantyshots to keep the male otaku watching.
It's OTT, the plot is sometimes a bit meh, but I loved the character dynamics, battle scenes and animation a lot, so yeah, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I'm watching Samurai Champloo for the first time and it's okay enough. I like the atmosphere.

I like Samurai Champloo a lot, but it definitely took a moment to get used to it. I didn't wholly get it at first. Still, I really liked Jin.

I'm like ten years late to the party, but I just powered through Gankutsuou and goddamn. Goddamn. What a great series. I'm totally blown away.

Holds the distinction of actually making me feel something for the Count, which is something the book didn't manage.

I've heard of it before but don't know anything about it. What was great about it, without spoiling it? I have a free weekend!

I love Gankutsuou. I actually only read the book because I love the anime so much, and I was surprised by how close the anime actually stayed to its plot in many places. I always thought it was one of those "very loosely based on" deals.

I like most of the characters better in the anime, too. Though I wish they'd kept Eugenie's storyline somewhat more like the original. (I heard they were going to at first, but something about time constraints made them end up having to scrap Louise's character.)

I loved how it focused on an outsider PoV. It made the Count's schemes even more thrilling and danerous. The style is also an interesting experiment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The ending is the weakest part of the series which is disappointing, but overall I really enjoyed it.

It is a very pretty and very well done show.
(On another note - if you liked the style and have not already seen it, you might want to give Mononoke a try (it's a series, not the Princess Mononoke movie). Slightly different genre, but also really great and stylistically similar to Gankutsuou.

Hah, this is very true. The book felt like a retelling of events but doesn't really make you feel much for the characters. Also I'm still buttblasted about youknowwho dying. Damn, that one hurt. Also some other stuff I wasn't fond of, but remove that and it's a really good series.

Samurai Flamenco

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
So at someone's recommendation, I watched the first season!

I really liked it, but I'm still WTFing about the mid-season genre-switch. I'm just really confused. Spoilers obviously - why did it go full superhero mode? Right when it seemed like it was trying to delve into reality vs superhero fantasies, which ultimately would make both the model dude and the police dude grow as people? I can really only think that the model had a mental breakdown after hearing his parents were murdered and not being able to feel anything about it, despite it "being the perfect backstory".

I'm not saying I'm mad about the direction it went, it was just completely unprecedented.

Samurai Flamenco (Spoilers!)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
SamFlam's a trip, haha.

Remember though that "Flamenco" is a wish-granting word in this universe. So essentially what happened was that Masayoshi wished so hard for sentai stuff to be real so that he could be a superhero, all while dropping the word "Flamenco" all the time, he basically hit the lottery and got his wish fulfilled. It just turned out to be a whole lot more crazy than he anticipated.

Inuyasha

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I watched this after most everyone else (though I haven't seen it since Final Act was released) and I pretty much missed whatever bandwagon there was, so I never got to talk about it.

Samurai Champloo/ Cowboy Bebop

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Is there really only one season of this (or was it 2)? I binged it a few years ago (hours well spent, in my opinion) and I was going to rewatch.

Anybody have any comments/likes/dislikes/feelings about this anime (which I thought was fantastic).

Cowboy Bebop--gonna check it out. Any place you would go to find it?

Re: Samurai Champloo/ Cowboy Bebop

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Cowboy Bebop is on funimation and hulu.

One season, 26 episodes. It's still one of my favorite anime. The only episode I think is a little /meh/ is Boogie Woogie Feng Shui.

Samurai Champloo is also 26 episodes.

Re: Samurai Champloo/ Cowboy Bebop

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Samurai Champloo is on Netflix but their subs and dubs are kind of stupid if you're going to watch it in English. Just a lot readjusting every episode since the default audio doesn't sync up to the animation AND if you want the subtitles on the default subs are the subs to the Japanese dubs so you have to manually switch to the correct subs if you're watching it with the English dubs.

I've been rewatching this show repeatedly for the last three or four months. I'm not really into anime but this is my favorite anime, and definitely a favorite show.

I've also been listening to the soundtracks a lot. I miss Nujabes a lot. It's still sad that he died so young. His works are amazing.

YuGiOh GX

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why does everyone shit on this show? The third season is AWESOME.

Re: YuGiOh GX

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I personally couldn't stand Jaden/Judai. He irritated the heck out of me and it felt like the spotlight was always on him. Still, seasons three and four were pretty good. The dub sure ended in a weird spot though.

Noragami

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Any other fans? Just watched season 2 recently!

I guess I really like the premise, even though I don't think it's a flawless show, I find it loads of fun to watch. Yato and Yukine are awesome. The female lead sort of bounces between feeling stupidly unnecessary to me and somewhat lovable (usually when she's being mature/motherly or occasionally when she and Yato argue). But I really want to know what happens next, and I haven't heard if any more seasons are in the works... even though it's pretty clear they just adapted an arc or two of the manga and there's probably plenty more to go.

Re: Noragami

Noragami really frustrates me, because I love the premise too, and most of the characters, but Yato/Hiyori being just about canon is unbearable for me. I see why having a "normal" human is important, but why does she have to be so typically annoying and a love interest? My annoyance at her being a love interest has nothing to do with me shipping Yato with Bishamon and Kazuma. Nothing at all.

Digimon Adventure Tri Movie 2 (SPOILERS!!)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-12 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
So that came out today!

Digimon is one of my main fandoms but... I'm not really fond of the slice-of-life feeling the beginning 3/4 of the film/episodes. I watch digimon FOR THE DIGIMON, not all of the angst and drama and shipping bs this season enjoys focusing on (there are so many other anime I could watch to get that). I understand Joe/Jyou's concerns (have been there myself), and I'm glad someone finally called Mimi out on her attitude. But other than that I wish I could just skip over all of the subplot bits (especially the Koumi ship-teasing; if you ship it, fine, you do you, but it's one of my nOTPs).

The ending though. Wow. That was awesome/unexpected. I was counting the minutes until Leomon died (it's a digimon meme by now, it was bound to happen) but the way he died was shockingly violent. The streaming party was freaking out when it happened.

I REALLY want to know what happened to the 02 kids. I had hoped this movie would have addressed that, but it just opened up more questions.
