I think this is really just a taste issue. I, personally, prefer more serious seinen series like DTB, Blood+, or Elfen Lied, etc... But then, I also love Ouran more than someone my age probably should (I haven't seen Monster btw, but it's on my list).

The "serious" series that I like, however, aren't necessarily grounded in reality. Despite the fact that a series may have more serious or adult themes, it can still be escapist.

*shrugs* I probably have a point in there somewhere, but I'm a little tired. People like what they like. It's crappy that your friends don't appreciate that you just have different taste than they do :( People don't always have to like the same things. It's just the way the world works.

(Sorry, I couldn't resist.) But anyway, I agree with your comment. It's a matter of taste and taking even "serious" anime way too seriously is a mistake.

11. I think what the OP meant was in terms of mainstream popularity, ala Death Note, BLEACH, , etc. It's not seen everywhere like how those other series are. It also obviously hasn't gained the popularity needed for them to consider bringing the anime over. I dunno. I like it how it is right now... we're big, yet small at the same time. Though I imagine said popularity will change once Viz gets the Kokuyo arc translated - imo part of the reason it hasn't taken off is because the official English release is still on the Daily Life arc, which to someone just passing by wouldn't look to be worth their time. I know I was hesitant to start reading because the cover of vol 1 terrified me. :x

Because, to make an "icon", you have to over sharpen the hell out of the image then over brighten and over contrast it. Slap on really ugly brushes that a 10 year old could make better than anyone, butcher the hell out of it with really bad textures. Oh look, an "icon".

And some people like you need a new monitor. If you saw the before and after on most icons/graphics people make? You'd change your story in an instant.
