Awkward Questions

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
For all the things you can't ask without feeling awkward, stupid, and/or like a terrible person.

Is chronic lateness a cultural thing when it comes to individuals from Pakistan and India?

Re: Awkward Questions

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
As an Indian, yes.

Can't speak for Pakistan though.

I don't know about those two specific cultures. But I lived in Asia for 10 years. And most Asian cultures are relation based. So to them relationships are more important than being on time. So if someone wants to talk to them, they'll talk until the conversation is over, even if it means being late to something.

I've heard the theory that lateness is more of a cultural thing the closer you get to the Equator. Cuz, you know, winter is literally never coming.

idk specifically about India and Pakistan, but lateness as a concept is definitely culturally relative. Some countries "arrive at 6" means arrive 15 minutes before 6, other places it means arrive between 6 and 7, other places i tmeans "arrive sometime today maybe".

How bad is it to use someone else's pain pill? On day 5 of a migraine, went to urgent care, they wouldn't give me anything stronger than ibuprofen. My primary care wont' change my prescription either. A family member offered me a tilenol with codein, and I'm really tempted to take it.

Look, I get that drug addiction is a big problem right now. But pain is a problem too. And it is so frustrating that doctors are so skiddish right now that they won't give stuff even when it is actually needed. And I need to sleep. I need to function.

It's potentially very harmful to you since the dose is not regulated for you needs and your body, and you don't know how it will interact with other foods and medication you have already consumed.

Re: Awkward Questions

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. If you don't got any allergies or medication that would interact badly, should be fine to take one.

To me if you have taken the meds in the past and now how you react to it and that it doesn't cause problems with other things you take. Go for it.

If it is a complete unknown there are a lot of risk factors like a bad allergic reaction ect and would be best to avoid it.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-25 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Medication can be extremely dangerous, not just because of addiction, but because of interactions and dosages.

Pain, no matter how awful it is, is not dangerous. Sorry, but I would a) stick it out and b) keep bothering them for a prescription change.

Well, if you have a true migraine, most traditional pain pills are not prescribed because they do nothing and opiates can actually make it worse. You need to go to an ER for some kind of triptan.

Don't take your relative's painkillers. Do go to your regular pharmacy and see about getting an OTC dose of something stronger than the on-the-shelf painkillers. They'll be able to look up your information and make sure they're not giving you anything that will have a negative interaction with your current medication or any logged allergies, and you won't be setting a bad mental precedent for yourself.

If you're a 32 year old virgin, and you finally go on a date, when do you bring up that up?

Also, will guys really "love" that I'm a virgin? I've been told they will, but I can also find a guy who's had a lot of girlfriends and/or been married finding that squicky.

I kind of think guys who are actively looking for an extramarital sexual relationship in their 30s would be more likely to want someone who's not a virgin (just statistically) - the "omg she's a VIRGIN" thing always makes me think of guys who are much, much younger. And if they treat your virginity as either a) a some kind of weakness or b) some kind of special unicorn state that must be worshiped I'd say run away anyway.

I don't think you necessarily need to bring it up unless it comes up (i.e. the conversation goes in that direction or you two start to get physical) but not being in your situation I can't say for sure. Might also depend on why you're a virgin and what you're specifically seeking.

don't tell him on the first date, or even on the first few dates.
when it comes up you can say that you don't have that much experience, but a) it's not that relevant at first if you're looking for romance (only if he's very into a sex-related life style like kinks), b) if he likes you for the first few dates, he'll be invested enough already. it's okay.

Should I cook dinner or should I buy a burrito

If I cook it'll probably be, like, chicken with sauce over rice, nothing crazy. If I get a burrito it'll probably be pretty good and have carnitas in it.

How do nonbinary people label their sexuality? I mean, it's easy if you're bi/pan, but what if you're into only one gender? Heterosexual/homosexual don't exactly work if you're neither male nor female (unless you're only into other nb people, I guess).

Are a lot of people really weirded out by the idea of people hanging out in their own homes naked or mostly naked?

I do it all the time and always have, so its normal for me, but recently someone I know was expressing disgust about a guy she was talking to mentioning he was naked a lot and its made me wonder.
