47.) JOEL! I absolutely ADORE him!

16. Same here. As if I don't already have "What if he's a homophobic idiot?", and "What if he freaks out when I'll tell him I'm bisexual?", and other "What if..." doubts. I think it's one of main reasons for me to be dating mostly girls when I like boys and girls equally.

24. LOLI DICKGIRLS

31. The popularity of both series has much more to do with hype, both from the fans and from the creators, than it does for the reasons you stated. Anime always gets much more attention than manga, anyway.

44. 0/10 Nevermind, 5/10 since you seem to be riling up quite a few people. At least I didn't fall for it.

31. Point well recieved. Like how SquareEnix gets more attention than half the quality video games out there. *sigh* But there is an anime and it was produced by Gainax and the director of some of the Miyazaki films.

Bite me. There are plenty of published webcomics. Besides, do you have any idea how murderous the comic book industry is? The self publishing movement was all well and good and produced some great stuff but it's still very hard to break in. And I mean, for fuck's sake, Warren Ellis has his own webcomic and he's one of the best writers in the industry.

Re: 44

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Warren Ellis has a webcomic? Where? I mean, I know Immonen's got Moving Pictures, but I hadn't heard about Wilma! :D No, I don't like Nextwave too much, really.

Yeah, I kind of hate how ubiquitous the quote has become.

On the other hand, of everything in the game, it's probably the best "sound bite" one could come out of it with. It's more a badge that you and whoever you're talking with have played the game.

It's still not the best part though. So uh, in summation, the cake is not a lie?

You mean, instead of all this time that I was wasting my non-money reading independant artists, I could have just driven twenty miles, gotten stuck in traffic, hassled by the neckbearded store owner for possession of tits without a bikini, and then finished the glorious trek off by paying for something by Greg Land or Rob Liefield?

Oh boy, oh boy! Quality consumption, here I come! My eyes sure are open, now!

44: Lots of webcomics are available in stores. Like Girl Genius (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/), Megatokyo (http://megatokyo.com/), Perry Bible Fellowship (http://pbfcomics.com/), Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com), The Devil's Panties (http://www.thedevilspanties.com/), Red String (http://redstring.strawberrycomics.com/index.html), North World (http://www.north-world.com/)... Gunnerkrigg Court (http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/) is coming out in a couple of weeks. Carla Speed McNeill's Finder (http://www.lightspeedpress.com/) is one of the greatest comics ever created, and she's switched from putting out floppies to sticking pages up on the web before they're collected in trade paperbacks. Warren Ellis is putting out a webcomic series called Freakangels (http://www.freakangels.com/) with Paul Duffield doing the art. Oh, and did you know Achewood (http://www.achewood.com/) was named the Best Graphic Novel of 2007 by TIME magazine? No, wait, what am I saying? Of course you didn't know that. You're an idiot.

Here's a tip: If you're going to be an obnoxious dipshit, try being an obnoxious dipshit in an area where you know what the fuck you're talking about.

Not really helping here but omg SUP FINDER FAN BUDDY ;A; I don't know anybody else that reads it so that is awesome <3

I agree wholeheartedly though- the internet is being acknowledged more and more as an extension of self publishing, and one much more viable than barfing up thousands of dollars a month on floppies that, quite frankly, don't work nearly as well in today's comics industry. And anybody who tries to say that self publishing isn't worthwhile in comics can basically go fuck themself~~

47. JOEL FUCKING MCHALE! It's a good day for secrets about people who I like. (PS, did anyone ever get on that whole 'creating a fandom for the soup' thing that came out of all those Joel/Mankini secrets?)

LMFAO.

Yeah, because if a comic is published that automatically means ~*worthy*~. Granted, there is a ton of craptastic webcomics but then, the same can be said of published comics. Also, think of the exposure the internets provide - even for already-published comic artists/authors.

Seriously, this actually made me laugh out loud at the idiocy. I've never felt anything but scorn for people who say variants on the "I automatically think less of..."

P.S: go read (http://www.girlgenius.net).

15. I find that part way more disturbing than comedic. Everything about that game is more disturbing than comedic... but it disturbs so good... ♥

24. I dunno, that muddle kid looks like Yuuno from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and it kind of freaks me out. LOL

45. Yeah, FMA fandom... FMA fandom. I fill with burning rage. Completely dropped out of the show and haven't touched the manga since.

51. LOL, I'm sorry... If "Raito" wouldn't have made me laugh, "Ratio" definitely would've. Sorry for your problems... but...

54. GOOD RANDOM MANGA DUDE YOU LOOK KIND OF COOL

59. So long as you just say "It doesn't appeal to me" and not give long-winded explanations as to why it's horrible and why this het pairing is so much better and SO CANON!!1!!!, I'm sure people won't lynch you. Just be civil. :)

64. Are you talking about what happened to Cloud in AC? Because so long as you don't have a money-hungry Japanese man controlling your brain, I'm sure you'll be fine. Changing yourself for the better, even if it's inspired by a game character, is never *ever* something you should hesitate about, nor be ashamed of. I say do it! >:[ And if you die, you can give your soldier honor and huge-ass sword to me, and I'll be your living legacy.

Not Secret!2: You're surprised? It's a CLAMP fandom. CLAMP fans are always psycho. Myself included. DDD':

(Anonymous) 2008-04-05 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I'm talking about what happened in Final Fantasy VII. When Cloud realized that he'd lost all memory of Zack's existence and replaced Zack with himself in his memories. He hadn't really done anything worthwhile. His confidence was an illusion. It had all been Zack.

I ship slash because, although I'm female, I don't want to read about it. Whenever I read het it just makes me depressed that I'm single, and the sex sort of icks me out. It doesn't make much sense, but there it is. I've found it's a little easier to find good yaoi than it is good het - and although sometimes they femenize the characters too much, it's still a bit better.

I don't like het because all the women are usually either uber-weak or uber-strong, and none of them seem... well, real, I guess. When I read het, I half-hate the women, always pretty and sexy and perfect. Slash isn't like that.

So. That's my explanation.

Re: 59

(Anonymous) 2008-04-05 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Slash isn't like that." Ha. Hahaha. Hahahahahahahahahaha. Oh, that's priceless. Because anime prettyboys are so much more realistic.

57. I agree. If you know that your secret is tl;dr then FIX IT don't just point it out. But also, I can understand how sometimes it's hard to summarize what you're trying to say without making things confusing and/or taking things out of context.

not!secret 2: Clearly you've been hanging out on the weird side of fandom. Sure there's a lot like that, but I wouldn't say the mass majoirty involves that.
For the record, I hate those fics with a blind passion, too. But you need to know where to look for the good fics. It's like with every big fandom: there's a lot of WTF-worthy fics, but you need to dig around for the good stuff because it's most certainly there.

10. Ew.

20. Mid-twenties *snorts* Try mid-30s to late 50s. Those are the people are I really get embarrassed by. 20s is the new teenager in this day and age. At least that's what it feels like. Once they hit their 30s though...really people, cut that shit out.

24. Woah woah woah wait, what? Is that freaking Pico and Chico? They're making more of that shit? *gags*

31. Oh shut the fuck up. SRSLY. I'm sick and tired of people bawing over how their show doesn't have enough respect/fans/fanwork, whatever the whinge of the week is. Life is like that sweetheart, get the fuck over it and move the fuck on. People like what they like and crying over it isn't gonna make them suddenly like what you like.

44. Wow, someone's head is stuck up their ass. I read webcomics that are *gasp* published and on shelves in a comic store near you! Funny that. BTW, webcomics are for FUN. Who said they need to be published? There's plenty of published shit I wouldn't wipe my ass with.

45. I see that wall of text and all I hear is "Wah wah wah wah!"

52. Contrary to popular belief, Livejournal is not fandom central. There is Fandom outside of livejournal. Best way to jumpstart a fandom? Set up a place for it and work your ass off. Quit whining.

57. Word. If you know it's too fucking long, trim it down! You're writing secrets, not your fucking life story. Take it to your lj bitches!

Is it really... so SO awful to want to share something you like with people and no one will give it the time of day? Even when you ask friends to appreciate it as well? It's called expressing frustation. I'm not crying about it. Welcome to F!S. Thats why it says 'I'd come off as an elitist' if I expressed myself openly.
