Sorry that you got bullied for your interest instead, OP. That's bitter. Pokemon Go is not all that deep and it'll be a much better game in one year or two, though. If you still want to get into it then. That's the idea I'm consoling myself with, at the very least :P

(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)I guess you can same I'm the opposite of OP, in that I find it amazing that Pokemon Go has taken that fact to another level. My 45 year old co worker had the highest level in the office and he knew nothing of the games or show. It's just fucking fun.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)Not every single well-groomed person out there is one of the kids who bullied you in high school, and being irrationally furious at everyone who has a slightly-geeky interest while not looking like a stereotypical geek is seriously unhealthy.

god, just grow up or get funny

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 02:47 am (UTC)(link)So the bits about them being bullied for something that is now popular had no effect on you? (which to me was the main gist of the secret).
Oh that's right, a bully victim should just 'grow up or get funny'.
What a charming person you are!

(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)I got pretty annoyed when people called me a liar when I told them I'd already read it, because the previous school year they had been bullying me for reading it, especially the ones who went on and on how great it was. I really wanted to scream "I KNOOOOOOW!" at them, and smack them about the head.
At least you seem to recognise that it's pointless to act on your frustration over it, even if it is irritating. I hope the bullying didn't end up takinb away all your enjoyment of the franchise, at least.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)But "every popular looking player" seems a bit extreme. First off, popular looking does not necessarily mean popular, and being popular does not mean automatic bully. And while I'm sure a small percentage of them are douchey, you can't hold other people accountable for the awful things that some assholes did to you back in school.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)I did know at least one person who would always mock me for being childish because I liked pokemon and I was wearing a cute pokemon shirt at the time, but then I just brought up the childish fanish stuff they obsess over and they immediately shut the fuck up. That's basically how I respond to people trying to tear down stuff I enjoy for fun. Everyone should be allowed to enjoy whatever makes them happy.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 12:31 am (UTC)(link)As someone who was a total Pokemon kid in the 90's, I know what you mean. I was a fan when Pokemon hit the States, and while the fad of it was popular, I had a lot of friends who were into it too. During the RBY era and part of the GSC era, I wasn't ostracized for my love of the series. Kids looked to me for help with the game.
Once Ruby and Sapphire came out, Pokemon was suddenly total shit according to the general kid population. As I stood by the series, the "friends" I had now bullied me. I didn't wear the series on my sleeve (wearing merch, constantly talking about it, etc.), kids would just harass me without provocation, sometimes even physically hurting me. The verbal harassment continued through DP and part of BW, until finally while I was in college, no one gave a shit anymore and I could enjoy XY in peace. The only people I could talk to about the series were online, either because local fellow fans kept to themselves as well or there just weren't any around.
Now that Pokemon Go's come out, I have seen the exact same people who gave me shit as a child going out and playing the game, acting like they've been a huge fan this whole time. Some have even tried to offer advice to me (I tell them "I'm good" while massively rolling my eyes on the inside). From overhearing them, the only "real" Pokemon are the RBY generation, and everything they've made afterwards are "stupid and gay." Where I live, the fad has already died. You're lucky to see one person playing on any given day. And honestly, I'm glad. Call me an awful person, whatever, but I think it's childish for people to treat others like shit because they're a fan of something the bullies don't like. There are a ton of series I absolutely hate, but I'm not going to treat someone horribly because they're a fan. It only matters if they're a kind person.
OP, I understand what you're saying, and I'm sorry. Life can be very ironic, but I hope that someday you'll be able to enjoy things in peace. The Pokemon Go fad will die, and then only the real fans of the series will play the game. Just be patient.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 12:45 am (UTC)(link)It's just that you're talking about feeling violent towards "popular looking" (???) people over a media franchise.
Maybe chill.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 01:15 am (UTC)(link)it's like the confessions part of F!S has gotten entirely lost in the discussions aspect of it. You all just want to argue and complain and for the sake of it.
Actually, I used to really love knowing that F!S was still running, but now I don't really care if it closed down, which I'm sure will happen any day now anyways.
Cheers

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 03:10 am (UTC)(link)people made fun of me for playing Pokemon when I was in middle school, but that was years ago. people change, times change, if you're still resenting kids who bullied you for playing Pokemon you're needlessly hanging onto it.
