I could never finish it. I don't knowm I usually like Forster, I've read his other works. And even though I'm interested in Indian/British relations, this books gets incredibly peripatetic all of the time. It's not even the lack of romance. Heck, I'm normally not even interested in romance that much. But somehow, the character have always seemed somewhat flat to me. It's weird to say, but I can almost feel how Forster himself disliked this one of his works.

71. The fact that a fandom is old, dead, or never existed should not deter you. Rare stories are my happiest finds and I know a lot of people feel the same way. Many niche fandoms or even strange pairings within large fandoms start simply because someone wrote a unique story.

A friend of mine feels the same way, and I wish, oh dear God do I wish, that I could make her understand that the flirting and all the closeness we’ve all got – ain’t jack or shit to do with looks. I know that she gets so bloody shy whenever she meets a person from the ‘net, ‘cause she’s drastically overweight and, I wish it wasn’t so, so bad.

I can’t flirt with people that I don’t like, no matter how pretty they are. There were too many assholes taking the piss out of me when I was growing up for me to be able to cope with it.

I love that girl for being her wonderful fucking self, and I wish there was a way for me to show her that that didn’t sound like hollow words. Love, tell your mates you ain’t so pretty, and see how they take it; I bet they’ll be cool about it.

"Freedom" is the only fic ever I haven't been able to finish. And I'm an angst queen - "I cried" tends to be the highest rec I can think of. I get about a quarter of the way through, and just lose it, every time.
