Seeing his number on my line put this tense, vicious frustration in me, eating at me, for reasons I'd never be able to voice. When I did pick up the phone, I'd switch over to that pleasant, inoffensive tone I'd worked at for all my life. It was a good skill to know, how to defuse someone with just a relaxed, reassuring "Hey, hey, slow down. I'm here, I'm listening." Even going so far as to press a smile across my face while I take the call. Method acting, I suppose.

But it was him again. Him and his fucking goddamn Toyota from Hell. How it was still in one general piece was beyond me. Once flipped it in a parking garage at low speeds.

It meant I'd be stuck here once more, nearly punching myself in the dick with how backed up I was, Alan waiting at home, chewing on his lip, correctly guessing that I was stuck at the office. He didn't know which shit was delaying me from getting home and satisfying both of us, only that there was definitely one on the phone here. The phone that runs my life, connection supplied to others via business card. And christ, business cards. Already enough people knew my phone number. I never wanted to know theirs. I don't call them at the last minute, keeping them from booking out the door and getting back to their loved ones, or their hour of roller skating, or their cocaine habit, or whatever it was they needed to get back to.

I've had more than enough of this job. I'm not even listening to him. I can't. One mention of his Toyota and my mind is impulsively gone, drifting through space, vacant and unable to be disturbed.

I'm ready to quit, go home, blow a load, sleep it off, and get a job where I don't have to use that god forsaken phone.

It's a demon. A bastard machine that lets others get at you, any time, any place, and ruin your day.

A phone is a curse, and this job is doubly so.

55. No. It's the fact that if someone doesn't like the series, we're viewed as idiots. I've already lost friends because of that fandom, and that's why I hate it. I just couldn't get into it, and the fact that I was being criticized for not liking it on my own f-list forced me to go on a month long hiatus. I say leave those who don't like it alone, and stop jumping on us. That's the reason why we don't like the fandom.

Agreed. So hard. I loved it because it was silly. The pretty art is just something else to like, but not as much as the crack and good story later on in the series.

You're sitting around passively waiting for some hypothetical person to come and rescue you from yourself, and you're not even lifting a finger to help yourself first. Don't you think that if you want someone to stick around, you should at least TRY to give them a reason to stick around? Real people aren't fictional characters, and they're not mind readers either. When you start "pushing them away" they're not going to know that you're secretly yearning for them to stick around and put up with your shit until such time that you decide not to be such a pill.

While I do have "ships" in Narnia (like Digory/Polly), I just really despise all of the hype that has come out of Ben Barnes casting. I fear that his attractiveness will be the only thing focused on, that the story will be completely ignored, that the whole introduced Caspian/Susan thing will be swallowed by hordes of fanbrats who never read the books at all, turned into something awful and ugly.

Sometimes the internet really gives me the impression that you're not allowed to just sorta kinda like Reborn. You either have to love it like it's your own personal jesus, or you have to despise it with the fire of a thousand suns.

I've found some of the bashing kind of tiresome, admittedly -- I've heard on more than a few occasions that "omg it's so retarded/lame/stupid," "how the fuck do you like that," and I've definitely seen more than enough of the stereotype that everyone only likes it for pretty boys and slashy subtext.

BUT!

I don't think it's at all accurate to suggest, as you have, that an entire movement of hate for a particular series is because the haters are all jealous of the series being more popular than their own. I can certainly imagine that there are a few people out there who feel that way, but painting everyone with that brush kind of reinforces that stereotype of all Reborn fans as obsessed annoying fanbrats who think the series can do no wrong and etc etc. Which breeds more hate, in the circle of wank. I wish we could all just accept that it's not everyone's thing, and that liking it/disliking it does not make anyone stupid. (I also want a pony.)

(Honestly, I think that's what annoys me about Reborn hate -- that a lot of people seem to suggest, when they say they don't like it, that the fandom are a bunch of idiots who can't recognize the flaws in it. Which is untrue! I know it's far from perfect. But I love it despite all that, and I don't think I'm alone in this.)

Agreed. I can understand where it's coming from - especially the crack issue, yes - but I feel like putting a cap on certain types of characters in a dressing room is a tad bit... excessive.

I'm also concerned that there are some very valid questions in that post that (to my knowledge) still haven't been addressed - parody as crack, and why mod posts are locked in the first place.

I love PWDR and I think all the mods are awesome, but eh. That just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. :/

28. Honestly, I'm not sure why any of those would be secret, unless you've been telling people you've been into Doctor Who for years or something. There's nothing pathetic about just having started watching. Everyone has to start somewhere.
And good gravy, I'd love to find my own "Doctor" or some equally cheesy phrase like that. I'd like a relationship that playful and fun and at-ease. And snarky. Let's not forget the snark.


35. THANK YOU! Okay, every now and again, I'll stray down the dark side for a bit of romance, but never, y'know, sexualized. It's freaking Narnia after all. (And I always feel so dirty, even if all that happened was a kiss.) Though I do feel a little sad at how old he is, because in VotDT, I always figured he had a little crush on Lucy.


36. After I finished, y'know, crying and wandering around listlessly, I just got angry. Good move, taking out the things that I actually loved about Torchwood, and leaving me with the vanilla (okay, I like Ianto, but he's salt. Adds flavour, is not a whole meal).
You can always do what HP writers did if they didn't finish their fic before the next book came out and slap "AU--no Exit Wounds" or something like that on it.


71. I've seen well-done SoC and character-study fics done before. I've done a few (don't know if they were any good). Just so long as you're not writing it just to be Teh Angst, give it a shot and post it. Write for yourself.
