Well, it looks like wanky icon secrets will never get love from anyone, on either side of the equation.

I just don't like icon communities/icon journals, they're hella tedious, so I don't bother looking at them and I don't bother posting to them. Ergo, I fill my 6 icon slots for my basic livejournal with the icons I make when I'm bored. I have quite a few.

I don't care if you judge me, really. I don't think it's necessarily immature, either. But there's still a subjective level to judging the artistic integrity of icons, and the fact of the matter is the style of most livejournal icons look hideous to me.

And hell, I prefer it when people make their icons themselves.

LOL, it wouldn't matter anyway because they still would've done it.

I sorta agree on the depression thing though. I love the pairing but I can only see it as unrequited love, which, y'know, is horrible.

103: Me too when it comes to Code Geass, I can't help it! Something vaguely suggestive happens and then I suddenly think "Waitwaitwait, where's this going?" Which is odd, because I'd probably ship Lelouch and co in het pairings before yaoi if I got into the fandom. Go figure?

134. I love you forever, OP, for implanting this thought into my head.

133: HOW? How are they supposed to be alike? My God House fandom, stop it. I'm glad the only House communities I belong to are for the new ducklings, as to get away from all the bashing. I *GASP* like them better than the original.

So is Taub Foreman, by that logic? My brain hurts.

163: THIS IS PERFECT!

Re: 133

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW, RIGHT? I mean, I loved Chase, but as a whole, new team >>>>>> old team, in my opinion, and, while there are vague similarities between the ducklings at times, I feel like I'm missing some big picture on how alike they are for as often as the House fandom seems to bitch about it. D:

Hopefully, the rest of the world will warm up to them - after all, they should be in at least three seasons. If House goes on that long, anyway.

129. loool I used that as one of my Senior Quotes. I've been planning on reading the book ever since then just to say I did, but I keep getting distracted by manga 8D; But even if that's the best part of it, there's nothing wrong with liking a quote just by itself, is there? You don't have to like the entire source material to like part of it.

135. rofl, my friend is dating one of the major players in the whole Steampunk genre (as in, when you Google "steampunk" his name is one of the first results), and even he only dresses that way for cons and photoshoots. Steampunk looks BADASS, sure, but it's pretty damn inconvenient for everyday life. Sekrit: I sorta feel that way towards hardcore goths, even though I tend to like the clothing. You can't be XCORE ALL the time, can you??

147. Poor Mikami :'< Haha. No, really...ha.
Sorry, I like him okay--he's definitely the best out of Kira's henchmen--but...I don't know, I've probably seen too much fandom crack involving him (icon related) to really take him seriously anymore, even though when I first read that part I really did feel bad for him.

158. People who rip off Vasquez just piss me off. Find your own style, people. Even most anime artists--who get bitched about so bloody often--put their own twists and tastes into their drawings, but most Vasquez wannabes are just trying to clone his exact drawings. It's sad. Use your own brains, people!

NS!4: HOLY SHIT YES. YESYES IAWTS.
TB!1: A...a steampunk ponysuit? I'm strangely intrigued by this ô-O

101. God DAMN it.

147. I feel the same way. I adored how he executioned everything- God, I hate Misa- but what he did to Mikami is unforgivable!

153. o_o Well... that's what it looks like.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
104. Well, I sometimes will off-handedly mention how I think some kid movies have 'adult jokes,' too, but I know what you mean. I've never bothered hiding when I like something. There's nothing wrong with being a fan of both Fraiser and Spongebob, or Disney and Coen Brothers. XD

117. For serious. I mean, c'mon, guys. ALL respect? I mean, being miffed is one thing, but ALL RESPECT?

143. You may have already gotten this nitpick several times, but it's a real pet peeve of mine, so I can't help it: You can't be OCD. That's calling yourself "obsessive compulsive disorder," which is silly. You're "obsessive-compulsive" about shipping canon. I don't mean to sound mean, I'm just saying...

153. BWHAHAA, I spent like, thirty seconds saying, "Wait, you mean it's not? *squint*" XD

163. I never watched High School Musical, but the mere fact that there's Pushiing Daisies in my secrets today made me smile. God, I miss that show. D:

158. Agreed. I have a friend who was doing massively well in the style of semi-realism,but then she got all into JTHM and her art just turned into a warped version of his. It was really depressing.

101 Every time I see that I lose a half hour of my life, captivated... >.>

105 I agree (in part? if you only have 7 icon slots...). I think part of fandom is using icons by other fans as a part of supporting their work just like they support writers with comments.

143 I think this is a secret in the true sense of it--I don't think you're condemning people, you just feel what you feel. That being said, I hope it hasn't messed with your friendships online or otherwise, because it's kind of a narrow view and not widely held or accepted at all.

In before the tons of insults heaped on this concept?

150 THANK YOU. Characters on tv =/= the people who play them. The race/sex they identify as isn't necessarily the race/sex their characters identify as. Sometimes I think the meta goes a little too deep. Go deep enough you'll find misogyny in everything, imo.

161 Word, and your grandma rocks. Fandom doesn't have an age, people just have problems with age differences and project them on EVERY SINGLE THING IN THE UNIVERSE.

108.

You don't have to believe in God in order to like gospel/spiritual/pre-blues music. I belong to a religious tradition of a rather different singing style, but I still enjoy this kind of stuff immensely.

Funny to see a secret about that, I never thought of gospel as "fandom" ;)

110. Me too.

117. THAT PICTURE = HILARIOUS.

139. I wish people who share "romanji" or romaji lyrics would share the freakin' kanji lyrics, too. I tend to be skeptical of romanizations and translations done by other people, unless they include the kanji and I know they do pretty decent translation work.

143. That must severely limit you, then, considering how actual genuinely canon couples aren't exactly common.

Also, fuck you for thinking less of people who ship something different. At least what we ship is interesting.

148. HIKARU/AKIRA OT-FUCKING-P. :D

105. Actually, I will openly admit that I AM pretty arrogant, and that's why I make my own icons. By far and large I tend to find that people who make their own icons have far more interesting collections than those who simply gank the newest, shiniest thing. Icons that users make for themselves are full of fandom jokes that HAVEN'T been beaten to death, references that are inclusive and thus make me curious about a person and downright *inexplicable* icons that you'd never think of posting to a community because it's kind of WTF.

Not to say that this holds true for everyone. I've seen some pretty pretentious and boring-as-a-white-washed-wall collection of self-made icons, and have a few people on my flist who's icon pages I check because they DO constantly rotate through the newest, shiniest thing... and they have incredibly good taste, but generally? Even if the icons are crap I think there is something admirable in making and using your own.

But that's just me. Even though it's kind of a stupid opinion, I wanted you to know you're right on a few accounts- I can't be the ONLY person who actually IS supremely arrogant about their icon collection.

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-06-04 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
... What is it with you icon people?

Isn't the best reason to make an icon because you want an icon that has not yet been made?

Why does it even matter that much if you're jumping on an icon bandwagon? It's cool if you can make your own and it's nothing to look down on people over if you can't.

My mother and I watch this together. It was lovely when I was younger, but oh god, now I'm at a slasher-age, and it's kinda awkward when I want to yell out something like "OMFG OTP" or "SUBTEXT!!" and she's throughly like "Nooo, they're just friends."
