104. true!!! People tell me that I'm strange, 'cause I love cartoon and anime. That it's childish. That "adult" prefer "real" film. Fuck off people! I read, I watch the news, I watch documentaries and similar things. I don't need a film to "illuminated" me. THOSE for me are the funny things!

150. Not everybody. Worships their shows I mean. But I get your point. I'm Chinese myself and I grew up watching TVB. All they're shows are a buttload of cliché and I agree on a lot of the stuff you said there. But I think that's kinda sorta the appeal of the shows.

Most of their shows are formulaic and predictable and it's been that way for YEARS. People keep going back to watch more because those formulaic crap WORKS. They're like the Hollywood equivalent of high school and dumb blond movies. Formula + Stereotypes + Slight racism = New Movie/New Show. But hey, people still pay, because the market for that exists.

And all the stuff you mentioned about gender roles, getting a degree, having kids by 35, obeying husbands, etc. are the kind of 'values' and 'principles' a lot Chinese people still believe in TODAY. Whether they admit it or not. And if you ask me, that's part of the reason TVB dramas are still churning out by the tens today.

To put it short, WORD. But there's nothing we can do about it, really. And I admit it, those shows are a guilty pleasure for me. The kind of stuff I watch when I want to 'turn off' and not think too much. Like Twilight.

I enjoy maybe... 2 non canon ships. Most of them are at least canonly one-sided. I just don't see subtext at all.

105. Man, when I started using LJ there wasn't anything like the kind of icon-making industry there is now. It's still a little weird to me, and personally I'm strangely uncomfortable using icons I didn't make. Of course, by this point I can't quite imagine life without easy access to good image editing either. How times have changed! And by now, I have friends who would mourn if I ever ditched this icon...

152. That's the sort of thing that makes me content to be largely fandom-oblivious. And yet I still see enough of that conflict to get annoying, alas. People also shouldn't need qualifications to enjoy a video game.

105. I make icons, but I usually use some from others, too. It's OK to be proud of your icons and want to use them. If you're in a small fandom and you're pretty much one of, like, two or three makers for it, you don't really have a CHOICE but to use your own! Or maybe a person just hasn't come across an icon that "calls" to them. Or maybe they like the practice and it just turns out that way. I dunno.
