I think there are a lot of people who stopped watching for reasons that have nothing to do with Capaldi, though. I really like Capaldi. I loved him before he was the Doctor and I loved his performance as the Doctor in the episodes that I watched. But I just could not fucking deal with the writing and storytelling past a certain point, and s8 was that point.

Oh for goodness sake. Lets stop telling people how to do fandom. I love 12. He's my second favorite Doctor. But who cares if other people don't or left the show. This is ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-30 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes... let the hate flow through you.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-30 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, people should like it just because you did!

Get over yourself. Not everyone likes every portrayal, not everyone likes every storyline, not everyone likes every companion. And that's ok.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-30 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well I judge you for being judgey.

I love how so many FS visitors think "Fuck you" is supposed to be cutting.

Well it is but it gets applied to the weakest of instances around here. C'mon.

So how do you feel about the fans that say that the Fourth Doctor is the only one worth watching?

(Yes this is a thing. Maybe more of a thing in the Wilderness Years, when there was no new Doctor who on television and seemingly no prospect of getting more, and a lot of the Fourth Doctor fans glommed on to the Eleventh Doctor, but still.)

I stopped watching Who not because of the Dr but because of how the writers were writing women. It was constant sexism wrapped up in jokes and insinuations. I heard that it improved but by then nothing was pulling me in. Bill intrigued me but it was the same writers so I didn't bother. For me this is not just about it being a new Doctor and that Doctor being female but large scale changes to the show. If I don't like what I see I'll stop watching again.

The writing is not an excuse to quit when the first season were even worse. I liked them back then when I was a teen but jesus, I rewatched some of the episodes some years ago with my mom and I cringed so hard it's not even funny. So much second hand embarrassment. Plus everything looked so cheap.

I stopped because I hate Moffat and more importantly I don't like his work. I tried Sherlock and found it predictable and annoying. I don't really like his omg awesomesauce 9 and 10 episodes. I tried 11s stuff and I didn't like it. I just don't like his style at all. Now that he's gone yeah I'll probably check it out again. Same as when a comic book picks up a writer or artist I hate I'll skip their run. Go ahead, judgypants.

I loved Twelve and found him to be a more interesting Doctor than Eleven, but that's a weird thing to be judgemental about. People are allowed to drop a show and then come back to it. I thought Eleven's final season was weak and didn't finish it, but I picked up the show again when my friend told me how great Twelve and Bill were.

I quit because of Moffat and I'm coming back because he's gone. The female doctor is just a perk.

You are very angry about a very trivial thing. I'm sad for you.

I come and go with the Doctors I like or don't. Doesn't bother me a bit. And yes, I stopped watching and now am excited to return. And yes, it's because the Doctor is regenerating as a woman. Go forth and judge, angry anon!

(Actually, I stopped after Donna. Fuck that whole mess.)

(Anonymous) 2017-07-30 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I stopped watching because I stopped enjoying the show (it was around 'The Wedding of River Song' IIRC) -- I don't really care if that makes me a ... bad fan ...? Or whatever, but I'm glad the DW fandom is still as weirdly judgmental as ever. Keep on trucking.

JUDGE AWAY!

(Anonymous) 2017-07-30 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the characters, but the Matt Smith run got so bleak. I just couldn't anymore after how the Ponds got cut out. So I left at that point. And I already had a deep dislike of Capaldi due to another role, so I haven't watched any of his stories. I'll give the new showrunner a shot.

Yeah, I sure did skip the Clara years. There are other and better things to do than watch something you don't like.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-31 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Haha wow, that's taking things super seriously.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-31 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of those people quit because of Moffat though, at least from what I've seen. Like they were still giving Moffat a chance with 11, especially since most people liked series 5, but I saw a lot of people give up in series 7 and series 8.

I do think it's a shame because Capaldi is lovely, and personally I enjoyed series 8-10 more then I enjoyed 6-7. I even like 12 way better then I liked 11, but I would never say the writing was top notch because it wasn't. And when people tell me they left because of the writing then I can't really say they should return in an era when it didn't improve.

Fuck you right on back, OP. I HATED Eleven and Twelve was boring to me. And I HATE Moffat.

So you can KINDLY fuck right off.

How about if you gave up after Eccleston?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-31 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I stopped watching around the time the show became "Amy Pond and her Boys", although I forced myself to go back and watch the season properly. I loved 12, but Clara... I liked her well enough at first, but she began to grate after a while. Bill is FANTASTIC, though - and I'm suprised how mych I enjoyed Nardole (lolno1curr ranking -> Donna > Bill/Martha > Nardole/Rory > Clara/Amy/Rose).
