103. I wonder what that makes me, then? I'm a Christian who's in fandom. I've met quite a few Christians in online fandom, actually... I think some of the RL people you're talking about should met us. We can take them to sci fi and anime conventions and scare them with our unhealthiness or something. I kinda think I know what you're talking about, though... When I used to be a Baptist, I hid a lot of my geekery from my church, even friends I was close with. I'm now an "unaffiliated" Christian and one of my fears about getting into going to (any) church again is worry about what "the other Christians" will think of certain aspects of my life - love of fantasy, love of anime, assorted geekery...

There are Christians out there who are just as "unhealthy" as you are, though you may have trouble finding them sometimes.


Too Big 3b. Fanfiction, yes... I feel exactly the same way. I mean, I enjoy writing fanfiction (though I've gotten less prolific than I used to be), but I like writing original stories, too. Whenever I write fanfiction anymore, I get a nagging voice in the back of my mind telling me that I'm "wasting my time" and ought to be spending it working on one of my novels, or writing a short story because I don't own the characters/world I'm writing about. I have to tell it to shut up. If this happens to you and you want to continue to write fanfic, it's what you've gotta do. Watching TV is technically a waste of time too, but I still enjoy it, so.. there you go. As long as fanfic is fun for you, don't feel bad about it.

Personally, I'd skip reading it - it's much more interesting when it's unsolved, rather than the 'oh... uh... k. WAIT WHAT lkaslkdfa WHAT' of the actual ending Lindsey apparently intended.

Hahaha, word. Kara/Leoben is my favorite, but basically I ship Kara with pretty much everyone at different points in the series, and I don't think she's going to end up with anyone at series' end.

Someday I will learn to stop being serious on here, because it never ends well, but in the meantime it's finals week and I'm cranky. So I've got some things to say to 103, 154, and most of the people who've responded to them.

All the people encouraging 103, and everyone who's answered 154-- in twelve pages of comments I've seen no disagreement with the secret, let alone the assumptions behind it-- make me sad. You'd think that in a huge varied community like fandom, or even fandom_secrets specifically, people would eventually figure out that the world is not in black and white.

The universe is not divided into Christians vs. "intelligent" people, or popular vs. geeks; the two groups are not even remotely mutually exclusive. People with (oh noes) faith in a higher power, or real-life friends and actual taste in clothing are not automatically worthy of derision. Let's all just keep doing what makes us happy, as long as it's not hurting anyone else, and not waste our time insulting other people for what makes them happy. Mmkay?
