Whedon was yet another sleazy Hollywood producer? Yeah, not surprised.

I mean, the "casting couch" has been an ugly part of tv/cinema culture for over a century now. So it wouldn't be a stretch.

I don't think anyone who's seen his work from Firefly on is even remotely surprised by any of this.

Although, I admit I started getting reeeeaaaaalllll uncomfortable with JW's feminist "bonafides" somewhere near the end of "Angel" because I realized her had a distinct pattern in both "Buffy" and "Angel."

When a major or second-tier male character leaves the show, the leave on their own two feet and alive. Or if they die, they come back to life (lookin' at YOU Spike).

But if a major or second-tier female leaves the show, they leave in a body bag. Assuming there's a body to put in the bag.

And that's not even the taking into account the shit he pulled on Charisma Carpenter, which honestly was the nail in the coffin of his "bonafides" as far as I was concerned.

tbh I never get the "what about the kids finding out" argument when it comes to celebrities talking about marital problems. (I heard it as a response to Beyonce's Lemonade also.) In my experience, parents are way worse at hiding stuff like that from their kids than they think they are.

Pointing out that someone is a hypocrite and a borderline sexual predator (because preying upon young women who work on your show when you are the creator/writer is a huge power imbalance) is more of a PSA than spiteful gossip, IMO. But I'm sure many cheating spouses rely upon that argument to help keep their cheating under wraps.

I believe that he cheated, more than once, and I believe that he probably did say some cringey shit when he was trying to explain himself to his wife. But I agree that his ex airing their dirty laundry this way doesn't speak well of her. Basically, him cheating on her for years was needlessly cruel and shitty. Her then telling the entire world about it was also needlessly cruel and shitty.

Damn it, Joss. Now you're going to have to be one of those creators whose stuff I like in spite of my issues with you as a person.

I still love his stuff, I can't help it. For me, Buffy was a big part of me exploring and discovering things about myself. I just love it, and I can't stop. Angel is great too, and Firefly and Serenity. And Cabin in the Woods. and the first Avengers movie. Dollhouse and Age of Ultron were okay. Honestly, there is very little of his work I don't like. They work for me. I hate it when people insist you have to like him, because no, taste is taste. But for me his stuff works really well. In fact, I now have the urge to start a Buffy rewatch.

I'm not gonna stop enjoying the shows he's made that I enjoy but yerk, I lost a lot of respect for the man(already had a bit with the whole Cordelia storyline in season 4). Wasn't a fan (nor a hater) but he seemed like an okay guy. : (

I don't really think hating or at least disapproving of Joss Whedon is a secret, anon. A major and longstanding fansite even shut down because of this.
