101. Why would you switch to a style that annoys you just so people will notice?

103. I will never forgive the people who made Iron Man for producing so many of these goddamned fucking "I <3 Tony" secrets.

114. I fucking love Hex. She was obviously being too awesome to scar you.

131. Squinoa.

133. I feel you. But remember that it wasn't a single person working alone doing all of that.

147. ... Congratulations? Maybe you shouldn't hate female characters so much then? Watch Hellsing. Oodles of rockin' female characters.

"had to start drawing anime"? ugh, jesus christ, who cares? draw whatever the fuck you want. people who draw anime just because it's popular are the reason we have books like 'HOW TO DRAW MANGA, by PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRAW MANGA"

don't be a whore, go back to whatever style you enjoy, and if it's good, people outside of the "anime fandom" will eventually take notice. also that thing someone said earlier about anime art being held to lower standards is true. I've been drawing "anime" since i was like 10. people on the internet, unaware of my age, told me my 14 year old fanart of sailor moon was great. (it wasn't)

or, maybe you're just showcasing your artwork in places where anime is really popular (such as, just an example, a TON of internet art galleries).
deal!

Re: 101

[identity profile] shadsie.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot agree with this more. With art, learn all kinds of things, from many sources and build on that! One of the most precious things you can have with your art is your own style. Learn from anime and manga, by all means. Also learn from the realistic schools. Set up stuff and do some life-drawing. Draw from nature. Don't just "take the fast track to being popular."

108. I have that issue with Shion too. I kept trying to give her a second chance, but that... that just stuck with me through the whole series. She made me nervous. My favorite pairing's Keiichi/Mion, though, so mostly I don't have to worry about Shion.
109. I'd settle for just finding out why Ofdensen's so fucking badass. Did you see last week's episode? He gets better and better!
131. So... the pairings you love the most are the ones that fandom hates the least?
146. Those traits are a big part of why I find L so fascinating. I wish people would notice that stuff instead of just fangirling over some weird woobified version of him.

"I'm known for hating the majority of female characters in almost everything"? What an absolutely preposterous thing to say. So you're proudly reveling in the fact that you're misogynistic? Even if you don't like how most female characters are portrayed as weak and in need of help, that's no excuse. There are plenty of strong, well-developed female characters if you just look in the right places. People like you make me so furious. Ugh.

110. If you write something specifically for someone, and they never even mention it to you, they're a complete douche. Start writing for yourself and for other friends instead of them- you'll hurt less over it, at least, and they don't deserve the awesome you expend in their direction. ♥

111. I LOVE same-seiyuu things. It can make some series hilarious. XD

120. ♥

127. Hahaha, they're cute. And I never minded the people who shipped them. It was the ones who stood there and went "OMG FAY'S NOT GHEI HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT YOU HORRIBLE PERSON HE LOVES CHI IT'S CANON!!!!" that made me roll my eyes (not so many of them, and I can say the same thing for the loud obnoxious Kurogane/Tomoyo fangirls- and that I still sorta ship!). As long as you didn't wank people because of it and realized it wasn't canon after it was revealed that she was a pool cover for deadtwin, modeled to look like their mother, it's totally cool that you shipped it- and it's totally cool even if you still do. (:

128. Th-this is sort of funny because I would love it if other people wrote my crossover OTP's. I CAN COME UP WITH IT ALL IN MY HEAD, BUT THAT'S NO FUN, I want the surprise and wonder of reading/seeing other people's stuff. :>

130. He's got a top hat. It can't be wrong. /shallow

131. I'd guess, but which fandom are you in? ):

132. But I want to know! and want to ship it too hahaha yes

133. Don't compare yourself to other people. I mean, think about it... Haibane Renmei is no Lord of the Rings. But people still love it. And, say, the Babysitter's Club doesn't come close to any of those, but it's made tons of people happy just by being around! If someone, anyone, enjoys what you write and you make people even a little bit happy with it, it's worth it ♥ No matter what level of the "beautiful and heartbreaking" scale it falls on.

134. I have old shows I love with the love of a thousand burning suns. Why does your love for that show make it impossible for you to enjoy anything else, exactly? :/

145. You know, characters can have brief relationships with other people, even of a gender outside your preferred shipping grounds, without threatening your OTP. BUT I CAN UNDERSTAND THE JEALOUSY, KIND SIRMADAME /o/

146. Hahaha I have never gotten all the L hate. Ever. |D O SNAP THERE ARE FLAWED PEOPLE IN THIS SERIES GET IN THE CAR-

153. HAHAHAHA BEST WTF MOMENT IN CLASS EVER amirite?

154. *LOOKS UP THAT SONG RIGHT NOW*

not!secret #3: *h-hugs* That sucks. I'd stop helping that person out, or tell them, "I'll still give you ideas, but you need to credit me from now on if you use them." Otherwise, sadly, you'll come across as giving permission for them to do that and they'll never understand later why you're upset when you were "perfectly okay" with it for so long. :/

toobig!secret: Cute picture is cute. :>

124. O_O

129. Trust me, that’s a good thing. I’d really rather have cried over fictional characters than the amount of times I’ve cried for myself.

117, 121, 133, 140, 148

[identity profile] shadsie.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
117. I'm one of those huffy, fun-killing people who doesn't personally "get" or like shipping Narnia (in a sexual way) - is just my personal view of the books. However, I kinda "ship" Aslan/Lucy in a completely platonic way - as in "she is his special one/special follower" - if that makes any sense. Carry on.

121. I'm no where even near your fandom, but I sort-of agree with you, in general. I think that "IC" and "OOC" are sometimes different things to different people (what some people call "IC" for favorite characters of mine I'll call "horribly OOC" and vice versa), but when people put up summaries saying they are purposefully "writing everyone OOC," just for the purty/the lulz/the drama/whatever, I can't help but think, "Why don't you come up with your own characters if you're only going to slap fandom-characters names on what your writing?"

133. I KNOW! I recognize every logo but the last one. What really gets me is Haibane Renmei... from what I've read, ABe isn't particularly religious/is agnostic, and I am somewhat religious -- and I *know* I can't come up with anything so subtly, beautifully SPIRITUAL as HR. To me, it's "spritual" in a completely secular way and just unmatchable. But, don't get down on yourself -- really, don't. I put a lot of energy into my own art and writing, and I know that my work will never be (at least to me) as WONDERFUL as the things that have inspired me (such as Haibane Renmei, The Lord of the Rings and Princess Mononoke *wink*), but I hope that someday, they will be *entertaining* to someone. I don't set out to "create masterpieces," only to entertain. That helps me feel hopeful, so for what it's worth, I'm passing along the advice, I guess, or at least we can fan together.

140. I considered vegitinarianism as a kid, but it didn't quite work out -- with my family of carnivores and my father being a butcher, so now I'm kind of like Bart in that recent episode about the calf: "Lis, I *can't* be a vegitarian, I love the taste of death!" Still, I think your secret is awesome. I don't always agree with her views, but Lisa is an awesome character because she has strong convictions and sticks to them, and even though our convictions are different, I'm glad she inspired you to do the same.

148. That's so awesome. They are a lot alike, it makes you wonder! For me, they'll always live on in fanfics and roleplays. Anime characters never truly die. Also, considering that the forthcoming Trigun movie is supposed to have the theme of "Vash vs. Wolfwood" - Wolfwood's will be on the screen again!

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2008-06-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
125. The show's got enough freaky shit, I really doubt they want to put child molestation and rape flashbacks up every episode.

134. That show gives me the warm fuzzies. I honestly can't stand it when people think highly off themselves because they don't feel like "lowering" themselves to watch those poorly thought-out but lovable Saturday morning joygasms. It's fandom sucks rotten asprin, though.

It’s a shame that you can’t really moderate terrible OOC fic. I know it shouldn’t annoy me but seeing some ‘Sylar and Mohinder adopt a baby and form a pop band together part 26 of 234’ type fic pop up every other time IS annoying!

101. Did you start drawing fanart or just anime-styled art? If it was fanart, then the reason more people noticed is because they already liked the characters you drew. If not then, yeah, that sucks. I've known a lot of anime fans who wouldn't read comics that aren't done manga-style, even when the art is excellent.

103. I think... that's the definition of a fangirl? You are a girl, and you're a fan of Tony Stark.

126. I laughed and then turned my speakers up loud enough to hear it... and then I couldn't even smile. :(

133. I only recognize two of those (possibly three? the bottom logo looks familiar), but while they were amazing and beautiful, I bet their creators didn't think "This is going to be one of the best stories I've ever written" when they started working on them. If you keep writing and drawing, eventually you'll make something as deep and touching as those series.

142. IDK what Bandflesh is, but this is giving me flashbacks to my Lisa Frank obsessed childhood.

143. MILLENIUM ACTRESS! ♥

145. I was pretty pissed off about her raping Otacon in the chopper when Snake and Sunny were right outside, but in the end I respected her. She was in it for her own goals, and she never really took sides.

148. When Cowboy Bebop ended, I sat there for several minutes in confusion until I finally realized Spike was dead halfway through the credits. Wolfwood's death didn't hit me as hard, but still. Baaaawwww. ;_;

107) You know, she's enjoying her Gary Stu, other people might be, too. Sometimes descretion is the better part of friendship. Plus, it's really not that helpful to tell someone they've written a Gary Stu -- they'll just insist it isn't. After all, they wrote the character the best they could with their current skill set. The most you can do is suggest ways her character can be less cliched and better fleshed out.

110) I'd stop writing her gift fics, but try not to read too much into her rejection. Long ago I learned to separate LJ friendship from fic appreciation. Truth is many of my most respected, most beloved LJ friends don't read my fics, not because I'm a bad writer, but rather because what I write isn't to their tastes. They go for a different style, different ship, different tone or plot. Even for those friends who do read my fics, if I write a gift fic, I don't just write any old idea. I work very hard to write specifically their individual tastes. I consider their favorite kinks, favorite pairings, favorite style, favorite genre, and also their turn-offs and squicks. I write the characterization to my friends interpretation as much as I possibly can. It generally goes over well, and makes for a pretty tough challenge.
