Amen! And not just some of the shipping crap, but stuff like making characters whiny (it really REALLY pisses me off when strong, capable characters are turned into sobbing victim types), or making a bad guy waaaaaay nicer then he is (or nice at all, for that matter), or turning female characters into sluts... Unless it's parody, spoof, or the writer came up with a really good reason for it, once the characters start acting way ooc, I stop reading.

149. There are only two media portrayals of Holmes I enjoy. One is Jeremy Brett (hurr durr hurrrrrr) and the other is Clive Merrison. I actually like Clive Merrison better because he was only in audio dramas. That way, the visual part was pretty much all up to me.

113. No fandom has ever managed to convince me that it's kind of dumb fashion choice. I mean, gloves are for covering skin. It is what they are there for. What advantages does leaving the fingers off really have?

113. Fingerless gloves allow for greater dexterity with the fingers while keeping the rest of the hand warmed or covered. I believe they were popularized by pickpockets who needed the added finger movement, but I find them useful regardless. And cool.

I wouldn't worry about it. What's appealing in real life can be vastly different from what's appealing in fiction. Most of my favorite characters are awful people, who I wouldn't really want to be around in real life, but I'm still interested in their psychology. :D It's okay to like characters who are jerks, if no one did then authors/artists wouldn't create them!
