153 - don't worry about that. Once I woke up in the morning and I have no idea what I was dreaming about (I'm assuming something scary), but before I was even awake properly I just reached out my hand, pathetically, and wailed, "Doctor!" in reference to the Ninth Doctor. I still get teased about this but everyone finds it endearing/hilarious so not to worry. I'm a proper grown up and I have no problems admitting this!

101: Amen to that. I tried to do that a while ago, got a good review about it, and realized that they were complimenting the canon more than my own writing. Never again.

107: I know exactly what you mean. I think I've met, like, one other yuri fan that was into some of the same fandoms as I was.

151: Well... I'm a Kira supporter. I believe a lot of people seem to have the wrong impression of what he was doing. Light wasn't just slaughtering every criminal he saw indiscriminately, not and the end and not at the beginning. He looked into his victims and only chose the truly "rotten" people.* Because the anime gave him Evil Red Eyes and Evil Laughter, people tend to assume Kira = Evil. (And I'll rant no more, because I've probably said enough to tick off just about every other Death Note fan in the world.)

*I think a scene just before the Higuchi arc mentioned that, where memory-loss Light was thinking about Kira's killing patterns before his imprisonment and the patterns after. Also, during the Near arc, he mentioned that Mikami was being way too overzealous in threatening to kill lazy people.

Killing off people, even evil rotten people, even if you don't care that you corrupt yourself doing the killing, is never gonna make the world a better place. You make a world built on fear, not on natural goodness. And Light's doomed from the moment he decides to kill Lind L. Taylor-- who's not an evil rotten person--because he might catch Light. That's the moment Light crosses the grey line into blackness.

131: Um? Wow, people are getting hot under the collar over this one. Which I guess makes sense, because lollicon/shouta/whatever-you-call-it is one of those trigger topics. People either hate it violently or defend it violently. (The people who don't care and don't say anything naturally don't count, right? Right?)

In response to the secret, if something is making you uncomfortable, try taking a look at why. :\ Not that I'm a psychologist, but I think a lot of the reason why the fringe fandom kinks make people squirm is because they know it's pretty seriously lacking in societal approval. The issue isn't so much "this is uncomfortable" as "what if I'm caught". If the only cause of your discomfort is "what if I'm caught", then you pretty much need to weigh in on whether or not you're going to let someone else's potential (not even actual!) disapproval get in the way of something you enjoy.

And of course, I can't address the secret without addressing the wank. (I'm probably lucky I didn't go to a zoo often as a child — undoubtedly, I'd try and poke the sleeping bear.)

Lollicon squicks you? Then go ahead and stay out of it. That's all it takes. It doesn't hurt actual children, which is the reason why 2D lollicon is still legal—and the reason why I expect it to stay legal, whatever potential laws may be floating around various governments at the moment. Non-biased studies have never shown that exposure (or even enjoyment) of a type of pornography will lead to committing the crime depicted. And by non-biased, I don't mean asking 1,000 rapists if they like rape-porn, because then it just becomes a chicken/egg scenario. (I will grant that remarkably few unbiased studies seem to even exist, which says a lot for the strength of people's opinions on the matter.) In the case of lolli specifically, the viewer actually tends to put themselves in the child's place when fantasizing. That's hardly something I'd worry about causing someone to become a predator.

You can dislike the art form all you like, but it doesn't hurt anyone, it doesn't lead to hurting any one, and I've yet to see a single argument that doesn't boil down to "ew" or an unsubstantiated claim of cause-effect.

Now for the obligatory fantasy =/= reality. Humans fantasize about all sorts of things that are complete and utterly against standard western morality. Incest, violence, rape, being raped. Do I even need to add vampirism, bestiality, necrophilia or guro? It's normal, and it's not something to be ashamed of, no matter what various "moral leaders" and social pressure might claim. A competent sexual therapist can tell you the same.

151. Light is an awesome protagonist. He's got ideals. But he's doomed. Killing off people to make the world a better place? Nah. 'S fucked, kid. The entire story structure is built around that. If people fail to see that then I don't think that they're exactly sociopaths but they've got some maturing to do.

WORD. Light is one of the best developed characters I've ever seen, but people need to think about what they'd rather have: a world without crime, based on fear and the only people who are guaranteed a safe life are the ones who stay up in their rooms all day, or a world with balance. I've always believed that we can't have a clear picture of what's right and wrong without crime.
