Apparently, the fact that "all" the guys look like girls means that the writer/shipper (whatever) is a repressed lesbian and is afraid to say so, therefore we 'act out' our desires through male/male relationships. Which is, somehow, more acceptable than lesbianism.

117: I wish I had something more intelligent or witty to say than FUCKING SIGNED, because I agree with you very strongly. I love my yaoi OTP for several reasons, one of them being that they're incredibly strong fighters with amazing internal strength. How atractive they are is definitely a factor, but it is one of many, many factors.

And I never understood the whole "closet lesbian" factor of yaoi, as well as people's negative opinions of it and shame for liking anything anime in general. Fandom, you confuse me so.

I think it's more the popular and inaccurate tropes of BL and yaoi, both published and fanmade, that are the problem, using plot setups like OMG I DRANK BOOZE AND KISSED A DUDE, or, worst of the worst, OMG A DUDE RAPED ME I THINK I LOVE THEM THOUGH and so on. Then there's the very popular sometimes ridiculous feminization of characters, and having met yaoi fans who honestly don't want 1. A really femmey guy and 2. To not see the dude's junk in the yaoi, cuz it's 'not pretty' or similar reasons, it makes me wonder if they don't really want so much to see two dudes going at it/building a relationship, or even two women, but more that they want two flatchested individuals with no gender at all, which is like the ultimate in non-threatening in romance, sex, and whatnot. BL and Yaoi has a lot of problems, some of which many fans actually encourage, which results in the not getting it, or saying it's fucked up. But, you're right. Not all or even not most of yaoi or BL is like that, and it's wrong to assume so. A lot of it can be good, and personal. Perhaps just seeing so much of the bad - and seeing how POPULAR the bad is - builds up these associations in people. It shouldn't be assumed to be the norm, or the absolute standard.
