They are so easy to openly mock; unintentionally hilarious lines of dialogue, exaggerated teenage angst, sparkling undead, the litany of overused and laughable adjectives, list goes on. I'm sure there are tons of poorly written books by men on the Bestsellers list, but I doubt any of them are as hysterically bad as Twilight... hence why it is much more fun to bitch about it than ignore. You can blame the patriarchy on this one, that sexism (along with other stuff) is so pervasive in this society that you can hardly watch a show or read a book that's free of it... and you don't want to live under a rock, now do you?

The way I see it, feminism isn't about avoiding representations of sexism at any cost, just questioning things and seeing them for what they are - even if it means getting lambasted for it by the "you're raiiiiining on our paraaaade" cohort. I adore Dr Who, I'm well aware of the stupid stereotypes (women, fat folks...). I love the show for other reasons... and IMO that doesn't make me a bad feminist.

And I hope you'll find it in you to talk about it, because it's a very interesting topic and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that (also, talking about it might help you make things clearer in your mind).

130. I think either whoever said that is really, really weird, or you are giving us a quote out of context and they aren't talking about having rights to the original work. Which is it, OP?

You know, if you're not against gays and lesbians IRL, then there's no real reason for you to be against twincest IRL as long as the two are a)both comfortable and happy with it, and b)either both male or both female. The whole problem with incest in the first place is because of it being really dangerous genetics-wise, so as long as it's not unhealthy, one-forcing-it-on-the-other, family members who can't actually reproduce being in a sexual relationship isn't going to pose anyone a problem.

There are probably plenty of twins out there who are uncomfortable with twincest, but, and I'm gonna sound callous here- so what? They're not in a relationship. That's great. But them opposing twincest that has nothing to do with them is like a professor opposing teacher/student relationships in fiction in general because they personally would never have sex with any of their students. Well, yes, that's true, but it's just another story element- teacher/student is not trying to imply that all teachers would have relationships with their students and vice versa, and twincest isn't trying to say that all twins have or should have sex with each other.

130.) Some people really hate copyright and think it ruins "art." Which is total BS. And, no, they really think that an author looses their rights the moment it becomes published. It's public, therefore it belongs to Fandom. They really think that the author gives up all their personal rights to their hard work, the moment it becomes public. And I have seen this opinion come from many fans, and as a person working on original works, it really bothered me.

They do seem to think they get magical co-ownership. That everyone who reads or likes it, or writes Fan-Fiction, now has some right to ownership. I'm not even kidding.

Well, if you do want to discuss it, we're getting more and more NewWhoFen at feminist_fandom, so you and others who wanted to discuss this rationally without wankery and name calling, there is a forum for it where you won't have to deal with people dismissing the concern out of hand. I think that, coming from Smallville fandom, I'm just glad to have what I have watching Doctor Who, but that doesn't mean that everything is absolutely perfect. It's just better than one of the worst.

I stopped watching BSG when Baltar became prez and they were on the rock. Spoilers I've heard here and there don't really make me want to return.
