155. 11 and 13 are just pure fun. 12 doesn't give me quite the same squeeful feeling but I could watch the other two over and over.

156. I've felt like a bad feminist for liking other shows, but not really for BSG, mostly because I honestly think that for every sacrifice made by a female character and every flaw a female character displays, the male characters make sacrifices and show flaws as well. Sure, none of the women are perfect, but none of the men are either (except maybe Helo). Everyone's struggling and everyone's making mistakes and doing dumb shit and yes, the highest ranking military officers are men, but the president's a woman and there are women in every part of the fleet and in the Cylons. If the women were all paragons of virtue and the men were all pigs I'd have stopped watching ages ago.

156. Speaking as a tired old hairy-legged feminist, I think the new Doctor Who's record with female characters is overwhelmingly positive. There's questionable stuff, of course; three snarky mother-in-laws is perhaps too many. :-) But I enjoy watching a show which is so inclusive of women, especially women over forty, in all sorts of roles - leaders, villains, soldiers, monsters, and so many ordinary women turned heroine. It disappoints me that for many feminist fans only the dodgy stuff stands out - they're not wrong to criticise, but I think sometimes they miss the forest for the trees.

tl;dr The shows' gender politics aren't simple. Our response as feminists shouldn't be simplistic.

Judging from that picture, I wonder if you're one of those Ten/Rose shippers who thinks the show is all about those two and nothing else. Because that's just a bad way to watch the show, not to mention a bit pathetic (and this is coming from someone who kinda likes the idea of Ten/Rose). Rose had her story; now it's time for her to move on. (oh, only if she could, but her whole life seems to be dependent on the Doctor, which totally undermines her ability to be a stronger character who is actually independent. What happened to Rose from series 1?)

Of course, if you don't fit into that category, then uh, nevermind. Still, Classic Who is still worth a watch.
