what: yeah me too.

comment" That would be rape. Or at least from where I come from, because Canada thinks America is kind of an ass and needs to decrease the size of its e-penis. America is like the stereotypical jock in highschool that's big aggressive and "popular" but that just makes everybody wary about him to the typical Canadian here.

Unless this is a story where Canada teaches America how to feel and really love and it is romantic and adorable because yes I can see that, anon. I could really go for that. Like really go for that.

I think that picture of Christopher Walken needs to be sent to "Men Who Look Like Old Lesbians".

Is it already up there?

...It's probably bad that I'm looking forward to the US Open more than the start of grad school, isn't it?

103. Well, as long as you're not claiming that it's evil leftist propaganda.

107. Because...anime/manga is awesome sometimes? And so are American superhero comics?

Comics fandom: not a zero-sum game!

115. For fuck's sake. God forbid people enjoy escapism sometimes. In Star Wars, of all places.

Escapist fantasy: not always a bad thing.

141. So disturbing, holy shit. Naruto fandom continues to scare me. How does any plot justification make mass murder and mind-rape the act of a kind and loving person?

148. How about, uh, "I wish no one had died, at least like that, because this show has way too much of a habit of killing off characters in melodramatic fashion just to give Lelouch more angst"?

O rite, I forgot. Has to be a battle over which girl is better.

158. Most of the Foreman fans I know are white. They can't be that hard to find; doesn't he have a fan community on Livejournal?

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
103. But... It's commercialized propaganda for the green-movement... which as my friend pointed out isn't necessarily a bad thing(it's not like its trying to promote the war or anything like that)... but still there is a hollywood motivation influencing it's praise. And for the record, that plotline got tired out back around Soylent Green time.

I dunno, some of Tolkien's Elves are pretty kickass in the Silmarillon. (But considering how hard it is to get through, I'd forgive anyone for skipping it.)

I've found that relative ass-kicking for Elves in D&D all depends on how they're played. :D

OP

(Anonymous) 2008-07-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I don't mean in personality, I mean in appearance. I just really love the way these elves are designed.

113. .. I'll keep my opinion to myself. No, I barely ship anyone from that series, so it's not that.
127. Agreed.
141. Aww yea. I have a big brother too and I do hope he loves me as much as I love him. The best brother there is.
142. Uhh okay. I couldn't watch a series where I didn't give a shit for any of the main characters, but that's just me.
147. Ahah, I have a pairing like that too (although I don't ship it "like burning"), even though I'm an.. anti-shipper as well.
148. She died? Oh. I stopped watching CG so that's kind of whatever, but I just have to say that, yes, she was annoying, but I tend to .. not like her kind of characters anyway. I hate my own gender too much. :'>

[identity profile] dissident.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
WORD.
Not that I even ship them, but I think the scene would have been more potent without the "DAMNIT ONE OF YOU, TELL ME YOU LOVE MEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHH" grossness.

Just, no. Lame, lame, lame.

You should read Max Brooks next book, World War Z which is a reporter going around interviewing people who survive the zombie war. Good reading.

Blame Nelvana for the whitewashing, not the source material. It was never meant for 8-year-olds in the first place. And IMHO it's not exactly traditional yaoi/yuri/teh gay, anyway; it's that attraction has nothing to do with age or gender in the show at all - it's all about personality and power. (Sorry that what I love most about the show breaks your heart, though.)

143

[identity profile] graziaplena.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
143. No, but when I read this as a teen, I marked every passage in which Rhett praises Melanie or tells someone how much he respects her. I never wanted them to be together, but I loved how gentle he was with her. I hope this is okay with you. :P

#140

[identity profile] militarypenguin.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Am I the only one who's glad that Harley isn't going to be in the movie? I love the character, don't get me wrong, but I firmly believe her character was the type that was meant to exist solely in animated form. Her personality, mannerisms, and looks would be difficult to replicate in the form of a live-action film without looking campy as hell, and it definitely would be out of the question in Nolan's universe.

Also, guys, would it kill us to wait until the film comes out before we pass judgment? Mark Hamill might be the Joker as of now for me too, but I'll be damned if I'm not looking forward to Ledger's performance, given what I've heard about the amount of time and effort he invested into the role. (As for Kevin Conroy vs. Christian Bale, I honestly love both of their takes on Batman/Bruce Wayne equally.)

Re: #140

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'd love to see Harley... down the road. But she was Joker's shrink in Akrham AFTER he'd been put away, and she's much younger than him. She doesn't belong in this movie, whether they use the manic version of the DCAU or the calmer, more calculating version of Birds of Prey.

106: But they'reeach other financess plus little Greta... I don't ... What. D: That's kinda stupid. (Not the secret, the writers not marrying them.)

109: Nah. They are lame and popularity contests. :x But don't mind me. I'm just a fandom no one.

115: No.

122: That is very sad. D:

127: Word! You can enjoy fandom and not mess with fandom if I don't want to.

131: Yeah... Well as they say, "furries ruin everything". Though! I have seen people take a Pikachu outfit and turn it into a lolita costume! I don't think that's what you want to do though.

They're Guillermo Del Toro's idea of elves in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army... and I'm of the camp that really, really needs to see that movie again purely to re-experience them.

The introduction of the one on the right is a scene to either combust undergarments or ask 'Drizzt Lego'Norris who?', preferences depending.
