or at least, i am, and a good portion of the fandom is.

we spent enough time being children when we were, well, children. our society seems to be overflowing with childlike minds in adult bodies, incapable of individual thought and addicted to mass produced entertainment and products. my issue with fandom stems directly from my issue with society at large.

I don't think anyone mocking the furries these days are doing it because their superior over the fandom. ....Well, some of them.

Now I don't condone anyone mocking furries, unless their the ones starting drama because someone won't eat them or because someone got offended because you don't want to roleplay watersports with them or just because someone not in the furry fandom, even furries themshelves, get disgusted over their hermtaur foxthing with dicknipples.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of furry art. But sometimes that one side of the fandom makes it bad for the rest of us.

oh, believe me, i don't go out into the real world and act like star wars changed my life. however, i don't have the attitude that 'it's just a movie' about any of the films i've grown to love. cinema, just like the theatre before it has become a vessel for our modern mythology, a new medium for a new generation of storytellers. i believe that a society's common stories are extremely important, as they shape the way we understand the world.

i think a huge part of my problem stems from the fact that i didn't exactly understand what fandom was before i got involved [i assumed that everyone involved in fandom was as interested in and as serious about modern storytelling as i am. i don't understand the desire to just kill your time immersing yourself in something that you find silly or otherwise mildly amusing. i also assumed that we would all be adults or mature teenagers having real conversations. discussing who the hottest jedi is and virtually worshipping george lucas =/= a real conversation for anyone over the age of 15, in my book].

i'm fond of rotj, but i don't think it's of the same caliber. don't get me wrong, they're all sort of b-movies, but i don't know - it never really touched me the way the other ones did. i think my biggest issue is that no one had to pay a price for their victory. if i made the movie, i would have killed off most of luke's friends and ended it BEFORE the ewok party, with luke burning vader's body on the pyre.
