109. That's what you call a 'hag'? I think you need to stop and reassess, pal.

121. Gurren Lagann is one of the few fictional pieces that I'm willing to dissect for meaning. It's so dumb and so brilliant at the same time, it's almost magical.

124. Sakura deserves a better writer. I want to like her, I really do, and if written by someone who didn't like to jizz quite so much sexism all over the page, I probably would. But the Sakura that appears in canon? I just can't.

N!S3. LOLOL. Sorry, but Piers Anthony is a hack of the highest degree. His books are just his fap material, with his own bizarre fetishes scrawled all over the page.

109. LOL, okay. I for one enjoy that pop princess. I personally think she gets better and better and not a lot of pop singers can say they write their own lyrics.

114. King of All Cosmos is definitely win across the board.

123. Oh hush it, seriously. There's nothing in fandom that you can fix or make on your own. CRY MOAR.

131. Don't worry. I do that too, sometimes it gives me ideas for drawing. But I usually do this for my OC than existing characters.

132. CAN'T UNSEE.....

109. Hag? lol damn

119. She has no belly-button.

134. I know exactly what you mean. My gaming usernames/icons are always gender neutral and I don't use a mic in games for this reason (bad for teamwork, I know). I get annoyed at my friends for using my IRL name while we're playing. I feel like if anyone has to identify me as female, I have to be at the top of the scoreboard/playing very well or people will be all, "Oh, a girl gamer *eyeroll*". I guess it helps me improve in that aspect. :/ I know I shouldn't care what other people think, but I do anyway.

Hello! Do I know you?

The Top Gear fandom has given me more amazing friendships than any other fandom I've ever been in, not just on the Internet but in real life as well. I'm not really writing fanfiction in it any more, but it has had a gigantic and lasting positive effect on my life. And that seems a bit silly, now that I'm typing it, but it's absolutely true.

So, er, I think my point is: make an effort to get to know your fellow fandomers! It'll be worth it. They're good people.

123

[identity profile] geckophobe.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
123. I don't mean to pick on you, specifically, but this kind of sentiment always makes me think that you don't really love the thing you say you love - you love the idea that you're special because you're the only one who loves it. Why do people let other people's enjoyment of X ruin their own enjoyment of X? It makes no sense to me.

Re: 123

(Anonymous) 2008-07-17 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
(Not the OP) It's not other people's enjoyment, it's other people completely griding things into the ground and bickering incessantly over complete minutae (they don't do this every fandom, but in some it goes way overboard). It may not make any sense, but for me, it does make it harder to enjoy something knowing that all the baggage and bickering and shipwars and craziness associated with something. It's not always that easy to tune out. But that's why I don't generally participate in fandom; if the OP has that big of a problem, they should cut back on their involvement/trim their f-list etc.

[identity profile] llivla.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
116 Seriously? I don't know anyone who gives two shits about which FF, or any game, has an emotional impact on a person. That's...well, personal. If they do, they are RETARDED. And what the hell is this image where FFVII peeps constantly cream themselves and go into Godzilla mode if anyone says otherwise about "their game"? Pffft. I've never seen it. It's called playing MORE THAN ONE GAME. :/ /end rant

124 Don't know about Misa because she's...kind of crazy. Fucking signed on Sakura though. *rolls eyes* I like Sasuke, I like Sakura, but together the two just don't mesh when it comes to bringing out the best.

129- I might be wrong, but I think that even most diehard Doctor/Rose fans would agree with you on that. Even if the Doomsday ending upset them more because of personal investment in the characters, there's no doubt that Donna's ending is more tragic.

Re: 129

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is true. There's romantic heartbreak for Rose and the Doctor (which they both clearly recovered from) and then there's (for all intents and purposes) death. Donna's was more tragic, but Doomsday was the one that made me cry at the time. I feel like the sadness of Doomsday was enjoyable (people like to be moved by such things) but Donna's horrible ending was just painful and unfair.

101 - I'm glad you got over it. It took me several years to "come out" to my Southern Baptist family (and friends) about my lack of belief in deities for that very same reason. That being said, I have no clue who that guy is.

110 - Uh oh... the replies to this should be amusing (I personally have no problem with it).

124 - Misa was a fucking idiot. She deserved what she got for being so damn stupid. That being said, I kinda sorta ship her with L. My brain is sorry for that. D:

125 - I've always wanted to as well. I like my voice, it's very distinct. I think it would be a nice addition to a superhero animated show or something.

127 - I do that as well! Don't be ashamed... I wish there was a comm where fanfic writers could get general help i.e word usage, whether they are phrasing something right, that type of thing.

133 - Don't even worry about it. I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks about me, and neither should you. Fandom should be a place full of fun, not people belittling others based on weight, looks, sex, race, orientation, or whatever bullshit people use to knock others down.

134 - I know what you mean. When I first got online (lol 10+ years ago), I did the very same thing. However, I don't think people who refer to themselves as "girl gamers" feel entitled to something, I think it's simply a way to show that girls DO play games.

141 - You're hardly the only one.

167 - Fuck that, I'd smash them both!

175 - I don't know who those characters are, but please! There's been plenty of times where canon characters have been hooked up after someone else died! It's a common plot. It happens. Deal.

N!S #1 - For real!

[identity profile] scrawled.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
175. LOL the context in which these characters appear, even disregarding the dead character wouldn't work anyway? so it isn't really a deal situation fffff

there's no proof they even met or know each other and arguably one of them is dead or dying, so on many levels, like I said, the dead character aside it makes no sense.

sorry it just bugs when someone is like, "I don't know the fandom, here is my opinion anyway!" Not to be mean or anything, but I was just explaining why some people would be like "wtf" over the pairing.

wow, I just teal deered you, but um yeah. THE MORE YOU KNOW. :D

"Metaphorically raped them to death in an orgiastic fit of lust and vapid consumption"

This is officially the dumbest thing I have ever read in my life. The sheer arrogance involved---as though you were somehow incapable of doing wrong, but everyone else is a failure---is nowhere near as bad as that wretched excuse of a metaphor

You've lost your privilege to write, let alone speak. Ever again.

OH my god, is it ME secret day?? I love you people!!

117--Holy crap Sherlock Holmes secret! Watson is MADE OF WIN. As Doyle wrote him, he is fully intended to be the hot one who gets all the girls. Not only that, he's also multi-layered, intelligent, damn loyal, and an all-around fabulous character. Come over to http://www.holmesian.net and hang out with us! Sounds like you'd fit right in.

130--OMG, is this really a Chelsea Quinn Yarbro secret?? ARE YOU KIDDING? I LOVE HER. She is going to Dragon Con and I am smacking myself in the face because I'm not going. I ADORE her. Why the hell does no one write Saint-Germain?? Or am I just not looking in the right place? I admit I haven't tried myself...

167--FUCK YES. I have been in love with him since I was 12. Ultimate geek love. Again, come on over to [livejournal.com profile] ianmalcolm and wake us the hell up. Here's hoping his new role on L&O: CI will bring him some more fans. He certainly deserves them.

And all the Doctor Who secrets?? YES, YES, YES, and YES. Donna owns me, and Nine is MY Doctor.

I agree completely! Donna is SO awesome, and I think you and I are among the very few whose Doctor is Nine.

Also, YAY for Holmesians and Goldblum love. I, too, was going "HELL YES" at #167.

123. I kind of feel the same way. If I care about something, I avoid any and all parts of "fandom" like the plague, because they just make things.. ick. I don't know. They sap all the fun and "special"-ness out of it. I know fandom is supposed to be something enjoyable, but a lot of times I just end up feeling ashamed and embarassed for liking something after seeing what fandom does to it. Even lurking here on f!s is almost too much (I'm kind of turned off to several series/shows/games I used to like before...) but I keep coming back because every now and then there's a useful bit of info (like a series of books that I didn't realize was still being published) or a kindred spirit. I chat with my small group of friends about fannish things and do fan art for myself, but I try to keep it small scale and low-key because I just don't find fandoms enjoyable at all. :/

137

(Anonymous) 2008-07-17 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
137. How about this: I only happen to find one of the main characters attractive (Sam, not Dean), but watch it because I find it, I dunno, entertaining. Jarod and Jensen are both great actors, IMO, although the same cannot be said for everybody on the show. What makes an actor good is entirely subjective, though. If you care to elaborate and EXPLAIN why the acting is so bad, by all means. Otherwise, you come off as a self-important douchebag with a superiority complex.

Re: 137 [OP]

(Anonymous) 2008-07-17 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
*bows* as you wish~
I guess I have worded this secret wrongly, I think they can't act, because I do not find their performances genuine, it might be down to the writers but I don't see the 3D characters they are supposed to be.
Instead of being moved by a scene, I find myself cringing to it, which surely can't be good. I can't sit through much of the show and be convinced by them, *shrugs*.
Maybe it's just the amount of love this show gets, I find it a little over rated, it's not the best thing out there, but whatever, not much is anymore.
As for the self-important douchebag-nes, why yes I am sir/madame, it's the way I rolll. ;]
