If anyone asks about my gender, I always say "there are *no* girls on the Internet". What I mean by this is that there is no real proof that I am a girl (or a non-white person, or disabled, etc.), and thus nobody can judge me or treat me differently based on it. All my opinions are my own opinions, and not the result of me belonging to some class X that always has opinion Y.

101. I've found that openness about one's atheism can depend on geography. (Like, duh.) I'm pretty comfortable talking about it where I live (Vermont). But I have friends in other regions that can't do that because it affects their job. They don't proselytize, but it seems like the very MENTION of atheism makes the god-fearing folk clutch their pearls. As if their all-powerful God can be butthurt by a measly mortal saying, "I'll pass kthx."

108. *hugs* It's difficult to comment on something that cuts so deeply, so I'll try to make this succint and hopefully not too trite (b/c it's hard to guage the depth of the guilt you feel because of a mental association, and if you know that your BFF would react favorably to something like that, even if he/she thought it was a joke, then I don't see it as an insult): The best thing I can say is that you couldn't have chosen a better, more loving, stronger, funny, incredible fictional character to compare your best friend to - and if Nightcrawler's personality and moral compass is any reflection on who he/she was, then I'd see it as the highest compliment to his/her memory.

Seriously, a person getting mindwiped to forget everything about the life that FINALLY allowed her to live up to her potential, potential that will now be completely wasted, is kind of inherently more tragic than the end of a romance, no matter how serious and life-changing that romance is.
