Why would anyone want to read a book with two badly written main characters? o.O Not worth it to me.

125, 151, 155, 179

[identity profile] lucia-tanaka.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
125. Dude, anyone who says Will Farrell is great after they watched Anchorman or Talledega Nights- they need to be slapped and sat down in front of Stranger Than Fiction. The man can act. I don't get why he doesn't more often. :(

151. Dude, Food Network so needs a fandom. Geoff/Duff! Alton/The Chairman! Bobby/Every damn person! :D

155. Only if SHODAN can get in on that. Auto will follow SHODAN's sexy orders with GlaDOS evaluates the :cough: performance. You know it.

179. Wot is that fandom? :curious: That looks like Sam Tyler a bit...

OT, but: icon love!

110, 136, 149, 159, 167, 168, 178

[identity profile] omorka.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it intellectual property day?

110: Hey, I know a leather-sub who discovered her kink reading fairy tales; this is just an updated version of that.

136: Zoobilee Zoo Secret! I haven't thought about that show in forever!

149: IAWTS

159: Have you seen Truly, Madly, Deeply? That's the film that got me crushing on him. Rickman plays the cello. It's awesome.

167: Oh, gods, I see what you mean. That is creepy.

168: How sad!

178: You're probably right. Both groups do Uncomfortable Misogynistic Drag Character too often for my taste.

[identity profile] cdaae.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
114 - So, go for it. Numbers are indeed just numbers. Why do people make such a big fricking deal about age differences?

126 - I hear you. I tend to feel like beating people over the head in those discussions too, particularly the ones who can't even spell copyright, and the ones who have no clue that the law isn't the same in every country in the world. (Not a lawyer, just have a family full of them.)

134 - You and half my friends list.

158 - I was thinking about comparisons between those two just the other day, but I don't idolize either of them or find either of them irredeemably evil. Oddly I think I find Light a far more realistic character than Dexter.

168 - aww, that sucks. I used to have some 1980s Doctor Who annuals and signed postcards which were long ago consigned to the family rubbish heap, which always makes me kick myself when I think of it, but that's nothing compared to a personally signed calender. At least you got to meet him I guess.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_tehriah/ 2008-07-22 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
112: AMEN. Although Edward can be interesting too, especially if you explore his time back when he was rebelling against Carlisle, and back when he was first introduced to the rest of the clan. He's cute because he's such a whiny spoiled brat.

129: This is actually the book that broke my faith in Christianity, and it paired with a few others is why I'm atheist today. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Books are supposed to make us think anyway, so I'm not ashamed of it. And I wouldn't consider that trilogy for young children.

158: I've learned the hard way not to try and argue with stupid people on the internet. A lot of them are completely foreign to the concept of a gray area and only fangirl what they're told is acceptable. Le sigh.

108. You kind of have no taste.

112. Oh, whatever. Vampires weren't a fad before Stephanie Meyer? Don't kid yourself.

137. Now that you point it out, actually...

149. Oh no! Not a true fan?! Now THAT'S gonna get their asses working twice as many hours and turn them towards the light! Keep learnin' 'em!

155. It's fine, I ship Hojo x GLaDOS.

158. Yeah, that's kind of fucked.

165. I refuse to pit those damn games against eachother, they are too good for that - I like all the theme songs, especially Kuja's. I do agree that the fanboys/girls are tiresome, though, especially since Nomura decided that the whole point of FFVII was OMG, WINGS.

While I'll admit that Eilonwy/Achren is not a pairing I've ever really thought of, my reaction to this secret can best be described as "HELL YEAH, CHRONICLES OF PRYDAIN!"

I love those books so so much, and would kill for a movie beyond the Disney pseudo-Black Cauldron one.

129. AHHH MEEEEE TOOOOOO. Philip Pullman totally OWNED my poor little agnostic brain. :D

147. What, that's silly. How does liking a show that intelligently makes fun of racism and finding the humor in it make you racist?

Answer: it doesn't.

Anyone else ever notice how a Twilight fan's first argument is always "I bet you haven't read the book, so shut up," and then when you respond that you have (not me per se, because I can't bring myself to read past the first two pages) and still didn't like it, they say "No one forced you to read it, so shut up"? I mean, I guess the response could just be "shut up" but still...

I consider myself a feminist, and I'm a little sick of this argument about Pixar. How many "classic" stories had male leads? Why can't we focus on the story instead of the pc-ness? Would you really call Jesse and Eve and Dorey weak female roles?

And the only similarity I see are the treads and the eyes. the body is completely different and so are the mannerisms.

Re: 171

(Anonymous) 2008-07-22 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Because everything have to have a Message and Deep Meaning. And everything fictional characters do is judged by "is this character a good role model?" instead of things like "is this character interesting?" Liking villians would break acafen's minds.
