110) Mine was Peter Pan. I was about the same age. His flying powers were taken away and Hook had him bound to the mast of a ship, stabbing him repeatedly.

So, hooray for there being someone else who shared these f-upped Disney fantasies.

[identity profile] zidane.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
136. Zoobilee Zoo D: I used to hate turning on the TV and wanting to see Inspector Gadget BUT THAT WAS ON INSTEAD BECAUSE I GOT UP TOO EARLY. IT SCARED ME.

138. Okay today's F!S post is made of my childhood horrors :(

157. OH HELL YES JOHN HANNAH

165. Dancing Mad >>>> EVERYTHING. Frankly, though, I think Kuja's theme is one of the weakest on FFIX's OST. Iiit just sounds like a slowed down version of "We Will Rock You" to me. Although I guess Queen is fitting for the guy.

171. Word.

138 OP here

You're welcome.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-22 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
149. Free > $20 for a DVD with three or four episodes.

Yeah, well. I'm cheap and I'm selfish, but it makes more sense to download. There's a lot more I could be spending my money on than overpriced DVDs...like tuition, food, and gas.

112, too

112. TWILIGHT IS LEGION. >:[ ALSO SRS BUSINESS.

:| I actually don't have an opinion on the books either way, since I haven't bothered to even flip through them. But I don't understand this sparkly vampires thing. Does she actually describe them as sparkling?

Re: 112, too

[identity profile] pavonine.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
From the beginning of Twilight, Chapter 13:

"Edward in the sunlight was shocking. I couldn't get used to it, though I'd been staring at him all afternoon. His skin, white despite the faint flush from yesterday's hunting trip, literally sparkled, like thousands of tiny diamonds were embedded in the surface. He lay perfectly still in the grass, his shirt open over his sculpted, incandescent chest, his scintillating arms bare. His glistening, pale lavender lids were shut, though of course he didn't sleep. A perfect statue, carved in some unknown stone, smooth like marble, glittering like crystal.

Now and then, his lips would move, so fast it looked like they were trembling. But, when I asked, he told me he was singing to himself; it was too low for me to hear.

I enjoyed the sun, too, though the air wasn't quite dry enough for my taste. I would have liked to lie back, as he did, and let the sun warm my face. But I stayed curled up, my chin resting on my knees, unwilling to take my eyes off him. The wind was gentle; it tangled my hair and ruffled the grass that swayed around his motionless form.

The meadow, so spectacular to me at first, paled next to his magnificence."

130. I symphatise. I absolutely love reading smut, but the older I get, the bigger my certainty becomes that I'm asexual. Sex just seems like such a messy bother for what it is.

[identity profile] misscherri.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
120. I don't see how hating it is a secret since so many people seem to.

[identity profile] jyusan.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconded. Hating Twilight is one of the most popular things nowadays, still making secret about that is getting really boring and pathetic

[identity profile] shesarebelyell.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
115. I LOVE that pairing too. It's one of the few things I actually like about DBZ, actually.

142. I felt worse for him too, because he didn't seem like he was some big Hollywood actor, he was more like a nice guy from Australia who really appreciated his craft.

149. I disagree. Mostly because the majority of anime is light years behind in this country (US) than it is in Japan. By the time it get's here, I'm usually done watching it. XD Also, I don't know what stage of your life you're in obviously, but personally speaking, being an adult female in your early 20's is fucking expensive.

153. I love Nintendo, but I actually agree with you that they spent the last 20 years rehashing the same stuff. Although admittedly, they do a better job of it than anyone else.

156. OMG. Legend of Dragoon is really under appreciated... I think Sony needs to make an updated installment of it. NOW.

170. OH GOD LLOYD ALEXANDER BOOKS. MMMM DO WANT. <3 I grew up reading these, and I hate the crappy movie version of it Disney put out. D: I wish they based the art for the movie off of the art on the cover of the actual books. (Like the one you posted...) Eilonwy and Taran will always be one of my favorite literary pairings EVER.

171. I actually agree with you, but I still really adore Wall-E. And I enjoyed EVE even more. XD

(Anonymous) 2008-07-22 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
101. This isn't a fandom vs. not-fandom thing. There's people in fandom who don't approve of incest. I'm one of them. Sounds like your friends are just sane.

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Did you just call all incest fans insane? Just asking.

[identity profile] undeniablynikki.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
117 - That would be an awesome show to guest on.

168 - Aww, that's so sad. But so awesome you got to meet him!! I'm jealous.

169 - Wow, that's friggin awesome. And your friends are tards.

177 - Chicken Lady is FIEEEERRRRRRCE.

Oh...and Walken troll secret--what are you on??

Yeah, the robots look so similar it means the story, execution and characters? Totally the same!

[identity profile] dots.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're right. On the other hand, I don't remember Professor Blackwell being anywhere near as hot.

Angie's face just looks weird in the new design. She looks like she has a beak.

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
142. I feel the same way, and all I can figure is that it just feels like a mistake. Surreal. Like there should be an undo button or something. Made a mistake, need to erase it, just real quick, 'kay world?

179. That was seriously one of the most beautiful scenes in anything that I've ever seen, from the build-up to the music to the emotional release.

138

[identity profile] tangldupinplaid.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That movie scared the living SHIT out of me as a kid. I rewatched it recently and STILL find it unsettling. You're not alone. :|

110

(Anonymous) 2008-07-22 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's not normal, but you're not completely alone. Seven. Nancy Drew. WTF? I blame my hypnophilia entirely on those damn books ending every chapter with someone getting chloroformed or clonked on the head.

[identity profile] cftfic.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
114 - Uh, okay then.

131 - It's a bizarrely appealing couple, I'll admit that. Because of how fucked up it is, in part. Oh, and original picture PLEASE? :D

134 - NPH is so cute in that role. Me, I'm just waiting until a "Like the fist of an angry Captain Hammer" secret. ...unless I just inspired one to make one right there. That doesn't count.

(Same on the memorizing music, also >_>)

141 - There are very, very few things that totally skeeve me in fandom. Yaoi, yuri, dubcon, incest, occasional noncon... some of it I like, if not, it's usually "hey whatever floats your boat." But mpreg disgusts me like nothing else does in fandom. Two guys in a relationship raising a baby they adopted / had through surrogate? Sure, that's totally fine. Guy biologically carrying and shitting out a baby? Good lord DO NOT WANT.

155 - What's the left one from? In any case, SHODAN needs to get in on that, yo.

131

I love the shading <3 I wish I knew the source, because it's beautiful and I'd like to see more from the artist.

Also yay twincest secret :B

131. That is some really nice artwork.

147. What is racist about watching that show????? That it's black characters???? dkjfghjfdks

158. So true omg.

112.

(Anonymous) 2008-07-22 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mock Twilight because it was "thrust into the mainstream so quickly;" I mock the books because they're shit.

I've read the books. They're hilariously bad. I have great fun mocking them. I also enjoy mocking the people who actually think they're good.

There might be "sane and reasonable" fans out there, but by making a secret denouncing Twilight-haters and saying "WE ARE NOT AMUSED," you've just proven you're not one of them.

129, 146

[identity profile] anogete.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
129 - But don't you see the beauty of the afterlife in that book? That your soul goes on to join the whole, the universe, as part of the dust. I think that is a freeing and gorgeous notion, and it makes me hope that's the way things go. Religion has never played an important role in my life, and I consider myself agnostic, but I would love to become part of the universe, to float in the wind as the consciousness that makes up everything we know.

146 - Yay for Steph! I love her, and she's my hero, too.

[identity profile] post-position.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I totally feel you. I forget sometimes that not everyone knows fandom expressions XD! I sometimes think that those people who don't know about fandom are somwhow missing out on a very interesting subculture XD! And trying to explain yaoi to someone who isn't familiar with it? Not easy or a good idea.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I'm not the op, but I totally feel you. I'll email a friend and use the "XD" face and they'll reply with "...what's xd mean?"

And explaining yaoi! I've been there. I found my friend's facial expressions quite entertaining. XDD

I thought I might find some there, but it's just so BIG... it's kinda daunting. Wish I had a better idea of where to look.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
101. That happens to me all the time, too. I use phrases like "OTP" or "I ship it" and I always have to remember, wait, they have no idea what I'm talking about. My closest friends have learned fandom-talk, but every once in a while it'll slip out to an outsider and I get that weird look directed at me...bah. They don't know what they're missing. XD

141. Same. It's the only thing that still squicks me! :D

147. "We"?

159. !! Weird, I totally could've written this secret - ages and everything.

169. I lawled. (I'd hit it, too, though.)

173. Okay, that wasn't my secret, and I thought the movie was awful, but I totally want to read your fic. Please?

176. This has happened to me before, as well. I can't pinpoint any particular ones, actually, it's happened so often. (I don't get so excited I pee myself every time, but I admit I've over-excited myself into an athsma attack several times. XD FANDOM IS BAD FOR MY HEALTH. HAR HAR.)

178. Okay, you've piqued my interest. Who are they?

121. You shouldn't feel like a bad fan. You should feel like everyone else are bad fans because they like something that's so different from the manga. ;) Seriously, I love the Japanese version of Hana Kimi and I love the manga, but that's most likely only because I've seen the series first and only then read the manga. And I still haven't finished the Taiwanese drama because I just can't get into it. The girl playing Mizuki just turns me off. :/

145. ...How can anyone find Saitou ugly? O_O

157. Jonathan! He was the best thing about the first two movies and I am watching the third one just for him. ♥ ♥ ♥ I may not love him to such an extent, but holy shit, I do love him. ♥

167. ROTFL. ♥

171. When I first saw the trailer for Wall-E (without knowing anything about the movie) I seriously thought it was another (a new) Johnny 5 movie. :|

I feel the same way (though I'm weirded out a bit that Evey is being played by a different woman...) and I get so excited just when a commercial comes on because ZOMG, HE'S IN IT. XDD I'm a dork.

Oh, come on, you're hardly the first one to bitch, and really, there's not that many similarities. The tire tracks and the eyes. That's about where it ends. And really, there are so many robot concepts that have those in other media that you're being ridiculous.

Also, seriously, what on earth is the deal with the FEMALE PROTAGONISTS :SIREN: thing? Can't we like a story for the story? Do we always have to go looking for causes to rage against in every movie we see? Seriously.

Re: 171

[identity profile] slowpurple.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
To me, the people who are raging about female protagonist, minority representation, etc etc show a slight tinge of sexism or racism to me in that they can't look past the appearances to the story. I never even noticed Pixar's "sexism" until it was pointed out to me because I pay attention to the story and their wide variety of characters and personalities. Not everything is about the lead.
