Wow, lots of Dr. Horrible today.

101. HAHAHA. I wasn't warned either (despite being somewhat familiar with Whedon's hatred of joy), and I'm actually glad for it. I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much or been as affected by the ending if I'd known it would end in tears.

116. Well... I really liked the game, but I can think of a lot of reasons why others wouldn't. The dramatic departure in tone from the original work is a big one. The good and perfect endings, and more or less the thrust of the plot, violate the emotional and thematic power of FFX's ending. (I wanted Tidus back, and I was glad when I got him, but I could feel the impact of the painful, perfect ending to FFX slipping away.) I was also frustrated with a lot of things they did with the plot and characters (ISAARUUUUUUUUU), and the sheer fanservicey sexuality of most of the outfits rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, I had a lot of issues with the game.

That said, for what it was, I was ultimately satisfied with it. It was fun, it had a better plot than people give it credit for, the gameplay is indeed very solid, and while I ultimately like oldschool!Yuna better, X-2!Yuna is a satisfying direction to take her in. (Hotpants aside.)

Besides, it gave me my yuri OTP, and that's rare and precious enough that I'll forgive a LOT for its sake. There need to be more pretty girls with actual chemistry.

117. It's okay. Dr. Horrible will do that to you. ;_;

148. I don't follow American Idol at all, so I don't know who that is - but that sentiment is, in a nutshell, why I despise celebrity culture. People don't hold up well under worship. Fame is detrimental.

154. Oh, I know what you mean, though I'm OK with Shang's muscles. I sort of have a huge raging crush on both of them at once.

Pure curiosity here- what yuri OTP is it? Cause even though I love Tidus/Yuna to death- I just remember really being up for some Yuna/Paine after the game.

Lord Utherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr <3 His coughing only makes him cooler XD

(I'm assuming TB stands for tuberculosis? I'm not familiar with all the characters >_>)

Re: 137

[identity profile] sarajayechan.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Uther is a rare TB case where the sufferer is a rugged badass looking dude rather than a waif. Which is awesome.

122. if someone not liking something you do makes there be 'something wrong with them' then you have some seriously fucked up priorities.

125. me, too.

143. Have you considered that the reason the movie is so popular is because it might actually be good? that's the buzz on my flist.

149

[identity profile] irethsune.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed! D:

He should have a fandom. <3

The Bill! I think this is the first secret I've seen for The Bill. I think Mickey/Jack was one of my first slash ships before I even knew about fandom and slash!

Re: 167

(Anonymous) 2008-08-02 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even like slash and I totally slash Jack/Mickey.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
111) Braaaaaaaaains! I'm beginning to wonder if we've forgotten how to enjoy tragedies. Time was when they were popular.

112) As someone who ships McKay hard, I don't mind at all. :D

113) You really want to explain how much of a geek for that particular movie you are every time some stranger looks at your hand for the next 60 years?

141) Wait, wasn't that excuse already used for the Harry Potter books?

157) Try concentrating on the meaning and emotional impact of the act rather than the mechanics.

164) Well, life has punished you pretty good for that insulting habit hasn't it. Next time you feel the urge to compare who you are with with an actor whose had all his physical flaws airbrushed out and his personality massaged by his handlers, just remind yourself how bad you'd feel if your boyfriend started comparing you to some random actress. Yeah.

129. There was a Ryan/Colin secret yesterday, too.

People. How can you secretly ship this? At least online, anyway. It's Whose Line's main pairing and practically CANON. Now. [livejournal.com profile] wliialove and [livejournal.com profile] wl_fanfiction to start you off.

141. ... Harry Potter?

142. I couldn't ship this pairing. I don't think the Joker would be interested in sex. It seems like such a silly human thing (from his assumed perspective, anyway), so why would he do that? Unless, of course, it's to play with someone's mind, but I don't think he'd do that with Batman, since after all, "[Batman] completes [him]."

144. From the few glimpses of it I caught, yeah, I agree.

151. Was this made by the same person as 142?

157. Or, find another fandom with a popular slash pairing and try that. Though, the Harlequins you've mentioned are in every fandom.

161. WEEGEE

(Anonymous) 2008-08-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Nah.

I fully agree with you on 142.

130

[identity profile] minervafranz.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
IASFM.

I loved HP, but KAA was an all around better author, IMO. And she had the ability to write all of the characters first person voices differently (her first person >>>>>>> SMeyer's). I re-read these books a while ago, and I STILL love them.

162

[identity profile] commonlogic.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like the series, but I'll admit that Usami rubs me the wrong way a little bit as well. I don't have a ton of experience with yaoi series, but I get the impression that he's supposed to be that way. I think he's supposed to skirt the line between eccentric and creepy, and which side of that line he falls on is totally up for debate and largely a matter of personal taste.

I think it'd be a lot less creepy if the mangaka would ease up on the male/male as male/female tropes and write Misaki openly enjoying both the sex and their relationship. I think a lot of the creepiness stems from Misaki's hesitance, which automatically turns their onscreen encounters into mild dubcon.

Edited to add: I just went through and read some other comments on this secret, and I agree with most of them in that I don't think Usami is a pedophile at all. His choice of Misaki as a partner has nothing at all to do with his age (remember, Usami spent years being in love with Misaki's older brother, who is the same age as Usami) and Misaki is old enough to be having sex with adults anyway.

Does Usami have issues with boundaries? Yes. Is he weird? Yes. Overgrown baby? Hell yes. Should he consider Misaki's relative age and experience a little more? Definitely.

Pedophile? No.

116. I'm a girl gamer. I hated it. The gameplay was good and the dress spheres were a fun idea, but the overall storyline and what they did to the characters was utter tripe. Sorry :/

109 & 163

[identity profile] viedma.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
109, that pic is hotness itself. OMG I WANZ. (Fandom!Secrets is turning into a nice place to find new stuff, btw.)

163, I <3 Tom Servo. I love his big voice and the fact that Kevin Murphy is v.v. cute, but most of all I love it when Tom crossdresses. Win win win.

163. I feel so much better about the kindof-crush that I had on Tom Servo back in the day. It's good to know I'm not alone in my freakiness (not sure I envy Mike getting to kiss him, but still...crush).

162. I like the series, but Usagi creeps the living fuck outta me. He's not so much a creepy pedophile, but more of a thug to me. @_@

130. I freakin' love those books. They were, and still are, my favorite series. Gosh, now I want to go reread them. =) I was just a little sad she never really, truly ended it (even if the ending was appropriate).

161. What the shit dude?

No, it's really because it sucked.

Sure I'll give the job class system a prop or two, that was pretty fun while it lasted. But still, it took the wonderful ending of X and threw it down the stairs just so it could rub some salt in it's wounds.

104. - YES.

121. - NO.

162. - Agreed so hard-- I was starting to think I was the only one squicked out by the Romantica pairing.

You expected anything more from an anime that came from a hardcore yaoi manga that involves age gaps?

116. I really enjoyed FFX-2. I definitely think it's because all the playable characters are girls.

141. I mean what other book has gotten young girls to read?

Harry Potter.

And while not perfect, HP women > Twilight women.

144. HEEE. London/Maddie otp!

108. come over to my corner of "the fandom" XD.

130. Not goping to lie, I was digging that all throughout middle school, and my heart ached tragically for the doomed love of Rachel/Tobias, but... I'm not sure I would go that far!

116

(Anonymous) 2008-08-02 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. Thank you.

I've pretty much just decided to ignore the naysayers, because truly, they're just a bunch of elitist fucks. It's called an opinion, people. You can hate it all you want, just stop trying to tell people they're wrong for liking it because, news flash, they aren't.

Diversity - learn it.

There is no shame in NOT being a Jack/Ianto shipper. Or being a slasher and once in a while prefering a het ship.

Jack/Ianto is NOT the be-all end-all ship of Torchwood.

Wave your banner high, and be proud. We're behind you.

Amen and Amen. Jack IS Omni-sexual. Jack IS Polyamorous. You can ship him with anyone you want! J/I may be canon, but "He'll shag anything if it's gorgeous enough." definitely is. Anyone who gets in your face about being a bad slasher doesn't understand Jack Harkness. Be bi-fictional and proud!

116. Don't get me wrong, FFX-2 is a fun game. I enjoyed it immensely. Great gameplay, some decent script and dialogue.

FFX-2's biggest problem is that it was the sequel to Final Fantasy X, one of the more popular FF games. It strayed too far from what FFX was and in places, sounded like a bad fanfic.

Was it a good game? Yes. There is no doubt in my mind. Was it a good Final Fantasy game? No.
