I think it's really nice that this was posted the day of the finale.

Meep.

Wow. And what about the hordes of books young girls liked to read LONG before Twilight existed? Julie of the Wolves trilogy, Anne of Green Gables, Little House on the Prairie, Tortall/Circle of Magic, Ella Enchanted, Heartland, Bobbsey Twins, Boxcar Children, Encyclopedia Brown, Mandie, Redwall, Nancy Drew or even some CLASSICS like A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, Heidi, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. I must not have been reading anything at all when I was 10.

This. We must have been reading the backs of cereal packets, or something.

105 - Am I the only one who finds that foot creepy?

114 - YES. Exactly. I am excited. And I suspect it'll be fun, even if it makes zero sense.

136 - Same. I'm not that much older than her, but it still feels strangely wrong.

140 - Are most slashers really that closed minded? I'm a slasher. Plenty of my flist like het. It's possible to enjoy both. Or just, you know, not slate people for liking different things.

141 - There are tonnes of popular young adult series. And most of the young girls I know are avid readers. I don't know any Twilight fans, though.

165 - YES.

140

[identity profile] wolveswithhats.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 04:27 am (UTC)(link)

162. Obsessed? Yes. Lots of issues? For sure. Pedophile? Nope.

Misaki may be short but he's far from being a prepubescent child. I get why someone wouldn't like the pairing but pedophile is definitely not the word you're looking for.

141. *smacks you with book collection*

150. RPF reeeeally squicks me, but I wouldn't mind non-happy babyfic with their characters. Something like that "Alternate Ending to Doomsday" thing I saw on YouTube.

142. Yeah, so does everyone. Or at least most everyone. Or at least most all slashers....The Joker's mancrush is all but canon in the comics. XD

144. Your father amuses me greatly.

146. My inner monologue is the voice of Gregory House. *shrug* It happens.

149. *points to icon* This secret really made me smile. Not because his story makes you cry, but because he's appreciated.

If I ever were to have children, which I doubt, I would ensure to provide them with healthy entertainment according to my criteria. That includes movies, videogames, and of course books. And those books sure as hell don't include crap like Meyer's series.

Screw social pressure. Adequate parenting CAN top a crappy educational system, a sexist environment and the general stupidization the media showers upon us.

"At least it makes children read! :D" is a lazy solution.

125) I'll start to worry when we get "Watchmen Babies: V for Vacation" hitting the multiplex. ;-)

130) Man, I was obsessed with those books. They were fun at the time, but now I wonder what I was thinking.

141) Wha? There are other books out there that we gals were reading, honey. (Most were better than that pile of shite)

149) Hachiko's too good for a fandom. What a sad story. :-(

155) Chimps at a typewriter are better than Torchwood's writers. But Sam is awesome!

157) Have you been reading TV Tropes?

107. Honestly.

109. Mmmm. I'm such a fandom lesbian in that I'm a lesbian for so many fictional girls. F!S makes me think it's a common affliction. We should get a support group together.

114. It isn't? Well, now I'm definitely going to see it.

116. How about because it's insulting to have this crammed down your throat as "the kind of girl a game wants to play?" Like I won't touch anything that doesn't let me play dress up, watch pop shows and has lots of OMGpretty girls, all of whom are coated in in a thin veneer of faux-empowerment? How about the fact that it basically destroyed not only characterization, but one of the series' most powerful endings? Damn, and you're calling these people fanbrats because they call the game what it is: an afterthought? Maybe it is because all the PCs are girls. 'Cause, hey, I'm also offended that apparently, when all your PCs are girls, the game definitely shouldn't take itself seriously and they should all be wearing as little as humanly possible.

141. Uh, I dunno... HARRY POTTER? If this is the shit it's getting them to read, reading is hugely overrated.

166. ... Weird. I didn't notice that.
