137. I'm just glad that you have actual *literary* reasons for disliking the books. Most of the book-hate around here seems to be over issues people perceive the books in question as promoting or putting down.

Oh, right. Honestly, the general problem is half due to the writing on the show and half due to the fans not being willing to allow female characters to be people. There's this huge unasked-for burden that all the women on the show carry in the fandom's eyes, which is to be an androgynous ideal and a flawed sexual human at the same time. The fans just don't cut anybody any slack, it seems. I wonder if that would be the case if the show weren't titled "Heroes," so they wouldn't have that impossible standard to live up to.

126. Hm. I didn't quite see it that way. I found it refreshing that we could have a love story, soap opera or not that involved two men. I never wanted it to be "gay cowboys", I wanted it to be two men in love. And that's exactly what I got.
I think asking for a Western 'freed of the shackles of heterosexuality' wasn't what the story was, nor even tried to be. I thought it tackled the issue of uber-masculinity in such a macho culture quite well.

I'm surprised it disappointed you in this way. I thought it was the exact opposite of your thoughts.

I'm apathetic about HP (it's not THAT bad imho, I enjoyed the first 4-5 books okay, they jut aren't maybe THAT excellent in the grand scheme of YA fiction) and uhhh well everyone SAYS the Golden Compass etc are SO GOOOOD and such that I tell people, well, um, they are popular and have many large words, they won't be BAD for your kids! :D Even though I personally just can't get into them. But agreed re: Eragon etc., in that I don't like to rec things I think will make your brain melt out your ears in boredom and cliches. I do not grasp how these are bestsellers or how people like reading them.
