Aww I loved Stu too! In the nights I used to watch the Live Feed and he'd talk about films and stuff, I thought he was really fun and interesting!

But I'm just glad Rex is still there *g* :D

106. You're not alone -- I don't ship them either.

125. I disagree with you, but I don't think your opinion is as uncommon as you think it is (if... that made any sense at all).

170. akjdskjfdsa [title of show] secret?! I kind of ship it too, even though I don't usually go in for RPS and that's essentially what it is.

I think he and Polly may have broken up in the most recent book...which was kind of weird. :/ Not just because of that.

142. LJ Filters. Learn them, love them.

164. Your girlfriend is lovely but you got her permission to post that, I hope? (I'd boot my SO in the butt, hard, if I were ever surprised by my picture up here.)

166. It's *not* canon? (PS: That pairing is older than the concept of slash goggles. The only thing older is probably Nicholas/Smike and Judas/Jesus. ;)

185. It was pretty awful to this neutral viewer too. I wanted to like it, but, eh.

142 OP

I wish it was that easy, but these people aren't on my friends list. Some of those encounters didn't even take place on LJ; they were on various messageboards.

You'll find that in any fandom-some people are just stubborn and assume everyone should love their ship just as much as they do, despite the fact everyone has different tastes. :/

Re: 142

Sad, but very true. If everyone would just stop and go, "Hey, other people like this book/movie/show/fandom just as much as I do. We don't all have the same views. Go figure," I think a lot of wank would be put to rest. :P

You're not alone. I feel the same. :\

The fandom has gotten it to the point where I refuse outright to read Jack/Ianto fic, and I hesitate to read fic with Ianto in it at all. I don't really like him, and I don't like the pairing, either. Meh.

I'd probably like him better if everyone didn't pretend he was perfect and omgsoawesome, and that the pairing is anything remotely like "true love" (I frankly don't think it's love at all, at least not romantic love, from Jack's end). I could even like it without that. Sadly, the majority of fandom seems to disagree.

108 - It is now inevitable that whenever I order Papa John's, I will imagine him strutting up to my door with his best "MY GOODNESS, JUST LOOK AT THE TIME" face on, and... well, that's my own private fantasy. ;)

137 - Sad that you let a fandom, bastion of sanity that it is (haha), prevent you from enjoying a perfectly good show.

170 - HOLY SHIT [tos] SECRET!!!!! I think I love you simply for submitting this, OP. And OT4? Hells yeah.

I'm sure a lot of people disagree, but in my opinion they've got a lot of great members and we have SO much fun and some awesome discussions.

Anyway, regardless of where you choose to go for your Pokémon fandom, I hope you find a great place that you have fun at! I've already found my places, here. ♥

101. Well, there's somewhat more dignity to that than to trying not to write the romantic bit of your current fanfic while on the public transport...

105. Huh. I never thought that at all, but it makes so much sense. I've gotten so used to seeing where other people will ship characters while not shipping them at all myself that that very legitimate reason never crossed my mind. My family's much the same way (with me and my brother being the worst about it), and I agree--lots of other family's do come off as kind of cold, and I never sussed out why.

111. With almost all of those, you nailed it for me. Although, maybe slightly different reasonings--I want to kave kids just so I can read them those books one day, or at least share them with them.

118. MST3K FTW.

122. I'm just surprised to see a Heath!Joker drawing so simplified and cartoony that still manages to look like both him and the Joker.

125. I'm sorry, I kind of do see that as naive. Mostly because I hate seeing people who barely know anything about it listing Romeo and Juliet as the greatest lovers or whatever. Maybe it was real. But I don't think it was supposed to be, or why include the bit about Rosaline at the beginning (I also thing but can't remember that they may've mentioned other girls as well). It just doesn't follow for me, but at any rate, I never liked the two of them much, so...eh.

132. "I pass judgement on you and call you delusional; now stop making secrets about it because it's not unique."
(I really wish people would stop thinking secret=unique. Maybe secret=thing someone doesn't want to take flak for.

137. I kind of agree, and I hate admitting it. One of my best, non-shippy-type guy-friends loves the show and I know he'd try to get me into it. But...eh. Weaksauce now.

145. Heh.

151. Admittedly, these are getting a little tiresome as well, and it bugs me that no secret ever whines about these. Gasp! You'd do the pretty, nice, good guy who even as a bad guy retains a tortured ex-nobility to him? Shock.

152. Oh! Oh! I know that one! He did the "Captain Bluebear" book as well, right? I stumbled on his stuff in a bookstore and decided I'd pick it up as soon as I had monies. Thanks for reminding me!
German originally? Cool.

153. Family Circus makes me headdesk most of the time, really. I remember a Pinky and the Brain episode where Brain ran for President of the US using with the campaign platform that Family Circus wasn't funny.
That said, for all its flaws, I love FBFW, and was quite sad to hear it ended, but you got your wish there.
Also, I freaked the heck out when I realised that one of my absolute favourite animators/character designers (Glenn Keane, responsible for such wonders as The Beast and I think Long John Silver) is actually little Billy. Ow. Ow. Ow.

156. Lol.

158. It's been awhile since I read it, so I don't know the canon of it, but the idea makes me both squick and giggle.

159. Um. Well, you probably worded that in a rather offensive way on purpose, but if you mean worst fandom in the since that the source material is wonderful and you really really liked it, but the fandom was just so horrible you didn't want to be a part of it...yeah, I can see that, at least.
I think of Christianity more like Star Trek fandom. Everyone has some passing familiarity with it; you have a lot of people who vaguely remember it from their childhood; there's a lot of cool, fun fans who make the most of the series and have fun with it; there's a lot of fans who start whiny wank and make it annoying; and there's the equivilant of a 300lb guy dressed as Troi trying to recite his Klingon poetry at people that makes the rest of fandom go..."Um...he's not with us." (Phelps or Jack Chick would be this.)

125 (OP)

(Anonymous) 2008-09-03 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but, if you look at it the idealistic way, you take what Romeo at his word:

Did my heart love till now? and later,
He jests at scars which never felt a wound

that is, with Rosaline it was just an infatuation, but now he's been struck by the real thing. I don't think they're the greatest love story ever, I don't want to be like them; I just believe that they really did love each other. It becomes a very different kind of tragedy and teaches a different kind of lesson if it was just lust. A lesson that's not as profound, timeless or universal in my opinion.

160. What is this? Looks familiar, and I thing it sounds sweet.

174. I agree. Laying Wolverine's past out clearly just...eh.

177. Mmm...Therriault!Gollum. Dunno that I want to write fic, but my reaction was I'd either hit it or hug it, wrap it in a blanked, and feed it soup.
BTW, the the actor is just adorable. Precious, really.

182. The Doctor may be the same person, but he forms rivalries with himself fairly easily, so I can imagine a companion being as good a reason as any.
And even though I'm really not a slasher (and don't want the details), I kind of believe that at one point, the Doctor and the Master were, em, more than friends.

It's Cadfael, aka, the Brother Cadfael mysteries, which were based on the books by Ellis Peters. They're set in the late 1100s-early 1200s in England and deal with a former-Crusader-turned-crime-solving monk, and they're awesome. :)
