For me personally as a Doctor Who fan, the fact that it's so doofy and ridiculous is a huge part of what makes it great. Partly because I just like doofy things.

But also partly because, like. I think the fact that the show is clearly not good and is clearly doofy really frees it up to do a lot of things it wouldn't otherwise be able to do. The great secret of Doctor Who is that juts because you're doofy doesn't mean you can't also be serious. The show can tell really weird stories and combine really incongruous elements, and it works in part because it's so obviously doofy from the start. You couldn't do as many things that are obviously absurd if you were trying to take yourself entirely seriously and fit into the standard mold of what serious storytelling is supposed to look like. It's this brilliant trick that somebody came up with and it's what makes the show great.

The fact that war is bad does not mean that every single participant in a war is doing something wrong no matter their reason. It doesn't even mean that all wars are unnecessary, let alone that all soldiers are bad.

This. I'm not a full-on pacifist, but I think that actually moral wars are few and far between, and even for wars that in a overview are fine, the acts of the good side are often pretty terrible and need to be called out. But that doesn't mean I think every individual soldier is a terrible person or guilty of atrocities. I wish our military was smaller and there were far fewer soldiers. But people who are actually soldiers are serving our country and are not the problem.
