Re: Would you murder someone if you could get away with it?

(Anonymous) 2019-02-24 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Seems like more effort than it's worth, tbh.

There are two people I always say I would murder if the Purge were a real thing, but even then, the reality there is that what I really want is for them both to be irrevocably fired, and since I can't achieve that, fantasy murder is the next best thing.

Cold here, too. And we just got walloped this weekend with one hell of a blizzard, to the point where interstates and other roads are totally shut down and plows aren't even on the roads right now.

We have more snow in the forecast throughout the week as well. I don't think they're predicting the kind of snowstorm we got this weekend, but still, more snow on top of what's already there isn't really going to help matters much.

Neither of my bosses will be there so I am hoping to catch up on some Netflix. >.>

An adult being attracted to an adult playing the role of a teenager is a pedophile.

I've seen some stupid hot takes about "pedophilia" in fandom but this one takes the cake.

That Tony Stark didn't know that his weapons were being used to kill civilians. No, he definitely knew because he'd have to be a fucking moron not to. He just A) didn't care until it personally affected him B) was fine with weapons killing people as long as they were being killed by the right people.

I also felt a lot of affinity with the way the character though. I mean, not the serial killer stuff, but the parts about having sex with Shannon Woodward, absolutely.

Busy with a bunch of early mornings. My boss is in Puerto Rico for most of the week, so I'm covering everything.

Have to be at Pearsall (1.5 hour drive or so) at 8:30 Monday. Tuesday I have an interview with a client at USCIS and then right after have 3 court hearings on the opposite side of town. Wednesday I have to be at the office at 6:45 because we have a hearing over the phone that is 8AM New York time. Have a work-related lunch on Thursday and then two afternoon hearings. Also have a big case where we have to submit the file to court by Friday, which means a lot of office work this week.

And I didn't manage to catch up on sleep this weekend. Was going to sleep today, but I blew a tire on the interstate and spent most of the day dealing with that.

That Melkor was an okay guy and that if Eru had just allowed him to create something, everything would be great. Except, no. Even if you think his original motivations were justified, Melkor was a villain who did terrible things. I get takes on the actual devil that view him as good. But Melkor? Melkor tortured and murdered so many beings. And creating orcs out of elves through torture? There is nothing that could ever make Melkor a good guy. Whatever you think of his motivations, he's pure evil. So's Sauron for that matter. I like Sauron. But he's evil and horrible.

Oh, speaking of Sauron, the takes that say he only became what he did because he was abused by Melkor. Nope. First off, I don't buy their relationship as abusive because Sauron is full of himself and would never tolerate it. He was absolutely loyal, and being the selfish, arrogant guy he is, would not be that loyal to someone who abused him. I just don't see it. But even if Melkor did abuse him, that in no way justifies all the horrifying things Sauron did. Again, I love the guy. Such a great character. But he's evil. Very, very evil.

Uh, I'm pretty sure the movie makes clear he didn't know. It was willful ignorance, and he was an idiot not to ask. But he didn't know. I'd say because he chose not to know. But at least I believe the movie intended the message to be he didn't know.

What are some lesser known movies you loved as a kid?

I think any reasonable, intelligent person in Tony Stark's position should have known that it was at least a strong possibility, even if they didn't specifically investigate it. On the other hand, ideological blindness is a thing.

You cannot make weapons and not know they are being used on civilians. Like, even people who are not super up to date on the news know that the US military kills a lot of civilians as collateral damage.

I agree that he should have known. And I can even buy that somewhere in his subconscious he suspected. He just didn't care enough to investigate and to actually learn. I don't think him not knowing makes him any more sympathetic because he should have known.

It almost seems like the possibility should have been so apparent and so obvious to him that the only reason not to investigate would be because you don't want to know.

Does Clash of the Titans (the original) count? I loved that movie so much as a kid.

Also When Worlds Collide and Forbidden Planet.

She with Ursula Andress, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee.

The Three Lives of Thomasina. It's Disney, but old, live-action Disney, so nobody remembers it.

IDK how I even watched it, since I'm not Canadian, but I liked it a lot.

Sorry, replied to the wrong comment. I don't see where OP is being as gleeful and over the top about it in the actual text of the secret.

That's absolutely what I believe. He didn't want to know what his weapons were being used for. I don't think he was consciously aware. But I think there was some subconscious idea that he actively ignored because he didn't want to know.
