OMG. I actually made a secret this week about how I sometimes download transcripts of SPN episodes and 'fix' them so that the plots make sense, Sam & Dean act in character, and the dialogue and 'twists' aren't so lame.

But it takes me like 15 minutes and I feel so much better afterward.

146: I find it to be a very realistic metamorphosis for the character. I know several former goofy-looking so-called losers who've turned out spectacularly. And I'm just egotistical enough to think that I didn't turn out too badly myself. Absolutely don't lose hope. Time works miracles, sometimes.

154: As I see it, Elle's function as a character is intended to be development from a very large child into a (somewhat) functioning adult. HRG is treating her like the viewpoint-stunted, self-centered, impulse-controlled individual she is, which is to say he's treating her like a child. It's creepy because we're used to seeing people her age be actual people to some extent. She's...really not. When you think about it, she's quite the spoiled bully. She's not aware that she's letting anyone do anything, because she's been raised to be dependent. And, all manipulation aside, when it comes to her interaction with HRG, she's doing the same thing fans tend to do: believing and trusting the voice that tells us everything is NOT OK. It's part of becoming self-aware...which is part of growing up, which she needs to do.

154. I agree, Elle is very child-like in many ways. And at first it looks like she is going to grow out of the daughter role, and grow less dependent on her father. But now everything points to her simultanously growing more dependent on HRG. She's merely switching from one father figure to another. That's not growing self-aware, it's not growing up.
She's going from one co-dependent father/daughter relationship to another, and to Bennet of all people, who does not even seem to have her best interests at heart.

The fact that fandom does not SEE this... just sad.

And yet every single user of asinine, obnoxious anti-Kataang, anti-Mai, and anti-Maiko icons is a batshit Zutara fan. Funny, that. Fans who hate (or really, dislike) Maiko and Kataang for reasons that don't boil down to WAAAH THEY BROKE UP MY COMPLETELY UNCANON OTP seem to be able to contain their ire.

Honestly though, I don't care why you hate the pairings (although claiming it's because they're "boring" full stop is laughable, considering how many people enjoy them). I just think putting your hate into fucking icons is spiteful and imbecilic. The one you're using now doesn't bother me as much, although I still have to wonder why you'd prefer a pointlessly snarky text icon that isn't even a quote from the show to an actual picture of your alleged OTP. Unless you've decided that the show sucks because it didn't end with the true rightful pairing Zutara, which I guess makes some demented sense.

Oddly, I think it's backlash from the usual "OMG A SNARKY PRETTYBOY LOEV" thing a ton of the teenybopper fandom always seems to do (... okay, so I do it too, but I do like pretty and snark in any shape or form is a total craving for me). From what I remember, quite a few people actually started hating on Joshua (and, to be fair, loving him) when just a few pictures and personality traits were leaked.

I, personally, love him. I think he's a manipulative, dangerous jerk who has a lot of potential to be good, moral-less, a bitch, or actually become a decent person if he ever did let other people change him (not necessarily Neku- I like the idea of him hanging out with the whole group and learning not to be so much of a better-than-human douche). A lot of fandom gets him wrong, but I don't get the people who hate on him in-game... dislike him, I can see, but he's not that bad, character-wise. O_o
