If not, then I think that makes it more awesome, actually.

115. Ugh. YXM bugs me with the author's horrible lack of characterization and random convenient tattoos randomly added onto Ink so he can magically save the day and take the spotlight away from the more interesting characters. At least with NXM, the characters were consistant, enjoyable and developed into something that expanded across the marvel universe.

The fact that you're cheering over a shitty book with a shitty plot just because you're bitter over the first writer swap doesn't make sense.

131. I've never understood their allure, either.

169. Cheers.

173. Lightsabers are in Star Wars. :(

135. I wanna see this so badly. x.x;

138. The second he chose her for VP I realized my theories about his views towards women were right. He doesn't care if they're smart or successful, of course it's nice if they are, but he's interested ONLY in attractive women. He will ONLY surround himself with attractive women. He makes fun of Janet Reno and Chelsea Clinton, he left his first wife because she became "ugly." It really solidified things for me. Honestly, he seems so shallow and boring to me now. I like Megan McCain a lot, but would he hide his daughter on his campaign trail if she wasn't beautiful?

161. I actually tried Melee at first because I'd FINALLY get to play as her. XD

169. Um... no? I've been a Batman fan my whole life and as long as I can remember, Batman isn't supposed to be "kind of a dick." Batman is a loner, he's kind of weird, but with a very strong moral compass. He's absolutely not supposed to be "kind of a dick" or ever intended to be one. o_O Seriously, I have no problem with you not liking TDK, but you miss the point of the title character entirely.

178. I'll never know what Jareth wanted. XD Well, I do know he could always use more product and more leotards, lawl. I love this movie, and I think David Bowie's package in his periwinkle tights was the first time I had seen anything like that besides the plastic "bump" of a Ken doll. XD I was only like TWO when it came out, and I think around four or five when I first saw it.

184. IS THAT A PAC-MAN FOR A BELT BUCKLE? XD Many people feel that way about many fictional characters. It's okay, OP.

114: What do their shirts say?

169: So, you're complaining about Rachel's role, yet your ideal version of The Dark Knight involves Fox, Gordon and maybe Alfred teaming up to save the world? Stop being such a hypocrit.

Also, Rachel was just there to be fought over? Whatever. The Joker was only there to give Batman conflict and to be defeated. Gordon, Fox and Alfred were only there to support Batman. Harvey was only there to provide conflict and to be supportive. If you break each character down to their basics, they are all 'only there' for Batman. It's what the writers added to them that makes them interesting as characters.

172: I don't get how anyone could ship it in the first place. Seriously, they don't meet until the last part of season two, and then Zuko does the whole betraying thing, so she feels tricked and there is a serious lack of trust. She does not forgive Zuko or even like him until halfway season three. All this time, Aang has been kind, a good friend and on her side, and was clearly besotted with her. Was anyone REALLY shocked that the hero got the girl he had a crush through the entire series?

169

(Anonymous) 2008-09-15 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Rachel was one of the three main characters. And the only female character with more than two lines.

Characters can be focused on the protagonist and still have their own shit going on. Dent was running a campaign to clean up the city. Fox had a lot going on for a minor character -- the man who threatens to "out" Wayne, his dealings with the Chinese businessman, his moral disagreement with Batman. It's sad that he had more to do than Rachel, who was so much more central to the story.

Of course all the subplots will ultimately come back to Batman in a movie like this. But all the male characters all had identities, motivations, actions that made them distinct and whole within the realm of the film.

That last part about being embarrassed would probably make more sense to me if I actually explored the fandom. I love the show to death, but I'm actually scared to look up fanfiction and LJ coms and discussion boards and stuff like that, because I don't want the fans to ruin it for me.

Anyways, that's... not really on topic.
I don't agree that the show doesn't take itself seriously. Yeah, at times, it gets goofy and all, but the most of it is being serious. It has quite a bit of depth and emotion in it. It's got a little bit of everything - and just because comedy/being stupid is in there doesn't mean that it doesn't take itself seriously. Most stuff has at least small amounts of humor in it, even when it's pretty serious.

Also, the picture made me lol.

148. As do I. Sure I laugh later on, but it gets me everytime.

121. THANK YOU. My friends and I came up with a theory that they're just dating to hide their true orientations. Seriously, we just can't wrap our brains around the idea of either of them being straight. Unless it's maybe Ryan wanting Sharpay (because, um, all the lead roles together, and that hissy fit he had during "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a"), but I think that's the extent of it.

172. Um, because he would've jumped in front of that bolt of lightning for anyone on Aang's team at that point in time, and- You know, forget it. You'll just have to deal with the fact that other people out there don't like your OTP.

I have to confess I often find myself attracted to religious subject matter in the arts, such as the paintings of the Renaissance masters, and, yes, classical music. Encountering Sufjan's music in my younger years was however the first instance where I acknowledged the importance of faith on a personal basis.

I agree about the whole jumping to conclusions about their relationship thing, and even about the age/maturity difference meaning he probably wouldn't be interested, but imho "OMG STATUTORY RAPE GROSS" is a weak argument. It's not like she's a little girl or something.
