Hearing voices, especially with enough clarity and regularity to use them as muses doesn't sound like bipolar disorder at all.

I'm bipolar - was tremendously disappointed that the asylum I briefly ended up in looked nothing like Arkham - and don't consider myself a freak, nor is it something I'd ever keep a secret. It's just part of me, like being left-handed. I don't have anything to be ashamed of, and as far as I'm aware no one treats me any differently online or in RL because of it.

Same here. I was diagnosed a little over a year ago, and I was really surprised by how supportive my flist was because they kind of went through it with me. I mean, I expected people to treat me differently because I wasn't thinking straight at the time, but if anything I've had people say they admire my honesty.

And I too am worried by what the OP means by hearing voices. You (the OP) should talk to your doctor.

132: The sexism in shonen manga can be staggering, but you could pick out the ones that aren't sexist, couldn't you? Like Full Metal Alchemist, D.Gray-man, or Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, for example? And if you're willing to try other genres, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Princess Tutu, Lucky Star, The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, or Slayers are all really great anime with strong female leads. And then there's a lot of anime/manga that's not sexist when it comes to female characters, except that there hardly are any...

It's not just shounen. There's a lot of Shoujo that makes me want to stab the mangaka in the face as well. In my sample I have Boys Over Flowers because the love interest ALMOST RAPES HER and the main character seems to find it only mildly offputing. *screams*

I've read/watched most of the series you suggest (and btw if you don't already know ALL of Arikawa's stuff is gold) but suddenly my standards have gotten so much higher it's even more frustrating trying to find something new!
