The weather people have promised rain 6 days in a row and not delivered.

Am I gonna have to sacrifice a goat?

Re: The weather people have promised rain 6 days in a row and not delivered.

(Anonymous) 2019-08-28 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
You should sacrifice a goat anyway. And then barbecue it. And then send it to me.

Yes. Curry helps the rain fall.

Rain spell:
1) Take a cup of water.
2) Go outside.
3) Pour the water on the ground.
4) Shout at the sky, "See? It's not that hard!"

Pretty sure we got it all, with bonus gale-force winds, lightning, hail, and tornado watches. Whoo hoo!

Sacrifice a climate change denier and then the CEO of Accuweather for good measure.

I think it's the weather people you're supposed to sacrifice, not the goats.

Please don't. It's been raining like crazy where I live.

Words that have replaced other words, whether in fandom, media, or just everyday conversation -- which ones bug you?

Squick was replace by trigger. And the actual definition of trigger (in fandom) changed to "things I don't like".

"wellness" ugh. what happened to "health"?
"share" as opposed to told somebody something
"reach out to" as opposed to call

It hasn't replaced it, but it bugs me when someone says "purchased" instead of "bought" for everyday things. I used to follow a popular blogger who would always say things like, "and then I stopped at Old Navy and purchased a new pair of jeans...." Dude they're jeans, not a yacht. You didn't purchase them, you bought them.

People who say 'I borrowed thing to my friend'.

No.

No you didn't. You lent it. The one who borrowed it is your friend, not you.

"clap back" apparently means to respond to/defend yourself someone's mean comment. Well, I guess it's more slang than anything, but I'm tired of seeing it in every damn celeb-related news headline. It's like "throws shade at" or "slams"... meant to sound badass but comes off as dumb to me.

(dumb petty grammar gripe alert)
When I started college I kept hearing other students using the word "itch" instead of "scratch." Like "I can't stop itching my arm." You scratch an itch. You don't itch an itch. Really petty but I'm amazed at how common it is where I live and how confused one friend was when I pointed out out.

I hate "That's a big ask!" instead of "That's a big request!" When did ask become a noun?

Movie Length

(Anonymous) 2019-08-28 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
What is the ideal length of a movie? How long is too long?

For me, a nice tight 85-95 minutes is just perfect. Anything more, you're wasting time somewhere.

Allergies suck

[personal profile] philstar22 2019-08-28 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I've always had allergies to things, but it seems like recently I've just been developing new allergies a lot more frequently than usual. Not even sure what the most recent one is, though I suspect it is blueberries (could have been a number of things, will see my allergist on Thursday, but blueberries makes the most sense with the timing). I like blueberries. I've never had a real food allergy before.

I just feel like my body is protesting something. This is the third new allergy in 2019. Although the other two were medication allergies. But still. I've never had that many develop in less than a year before.
