102: What? No we don't. When there's new canon, common sense is to acknowledge that it exists. Most people may not like it (I have no idea what most people think of certain pieces of canon), but it's still there, and if you're especially looking for fanfic that includes or excludes certain parts of canon it's also really helpful.

176: Sorry, but you seem to have lost your sense of logic somewhere along the way. Start looking somewhere around where you decided that shipping canon couples is somehow different from shipping non-canon couples (and what happens when a non-canon couple suddenly becomes canon?).

176. Er, I'm pretty sure people who ship non-canon pairings are well aware that they're, y'know, pretendy fun times. Also, you state Jack/Ianto as an example of good, canon shipping, yes? What about people who shipped them from episode one? It wasn't canon then, but I (and many others) still shipped it. I never expected it to be canon - I would have liked it, but I thought it'd just be another pairing which I liked that'd never happen. The fact that it became canon later is beside the point, I've been shipping it since BEFORE it was canon. Does that make me out of touch with reality?

And Doctor/Master not canon? Seriously, how much Doctor Who have you seen? XD

Anyway. Just because they're not shagging onscreen (...because with Tennant and Simm, THE TVS WOULD MELT) doesn't mean that there isn't something there. Even the show writers agree! (Panel at the Gallifrey One convention. A bunch of people involved in the show, including writers like Paul Cornell, said that yes, Doctor/Master is basically canon. ...Cornell also said, "'Squee' is a beautiful word." I knew I adored that guy XD)

That goes for all of the pairings you mentioned, incidentally. Just because fic can take it further doesn't mean there isn't something in the first place.

Sadly, not always. But! I didn't bother getting into that juuust because the secret is attacking slash fans for shipping non-canon pairings in the first place, not believing that they're canon (as some of the crazier, oh-god-get-off-my-side-of-the-Internet ones do). It is an extremely good point, though -- in the cases that I see most anons arguing, it wouldn't be the OP against slash pairings, it'd be the OP against non-canon pairings and idiots. Unfortunately, that's nowhere near how it came across.

I'm honestly puzzled that no one has replied to this. Or, well, maybe I missed them. It could happen. I guess people got very distracted by the troll secret, i.e. 176.

But. Anyway. I'll admit I cringed when I saw, "Rose to my Doctor," because I passionately hate that pairing, and so nearly ignored this secret, figuring it was like the other secrets that say similar things and ramble vapidly on about this other person who is their true love, etc...


I'm glad I didn't skip it. I think you're brave to have posted it, even anon. I can see why their relationship would mean something special to you. And why S4's cheat would be so hurtful, because really, it WAS a cheat for RTD to get them back together. Good storytelling shouldn't work like that - it cheapens the way we vicariously experience the characters, when we know (or at least can guess) how they feel. It undermines the emotional truth of it.

I don't think you're just an immature fanboy. That's what stories are there for, i.e. for us to tell ourselves and each other about what it means to be human and what it is to experience life, including loss.

I'm so sorry you lost your Rose. I hope you're doing okay.

Hi, thanks for your comment (and thanks to all the posters of the tiny comments in the previous pages, as well). I am surely better than I was a day after, but still, it happened this summer, so... I don't think it's happened in a way that will allow me to ever just put the event behind me and go on with my life.
Anyway, psychology aside - I tried to clarify in the secret, because while I don't hate any paring passionately, I didn't mean the "couple" (as in, non romantic... two people)... well, romantically. We weren't romantically involved, at all. And I didn't mean Rose/Doctor that way. More of a "best friends" kind of relationship. Or not, just two people being very happy together. ... Or whatever, I mean, I'm not very articulate tonight, but if you've watched DW without trying to find any pairing in it and just considering whatever happened on screen, you know what I mean. I guess.

I actually got very anxious posting the secret (heartbeat over the top for a day!), so... Thanks for telling me I was brave :)

I agree with you on the RTD part. I just hope this won't be the end of it. Even with the absolute aknowledgement that we are talking about fictional characters so not every real life 'rule' applies, if The Doctor had any kind of emotion the story cannot stop there. You can't just shrug it off like that.

116. It WAS an epic film in terms of its scale and special effects. I mean, if you read up on the production details and such, this film is/was simply AMAZING.

Problem is, James Cameron can't write. The love story wasn't too bad (and could have been great in the hands of a better writer), but the dialogue and all just...stank.

Well, I don't know your friend, but I'm Catholic conservative and slash guys like there's no tomorrow. :3 In the end, it depends on the individual. With my friends in high school (Catholic high school, at that), I dropped hints that I liked slash. Like, if we were watching a movie and two guys hugged or something, I'd go go "Aawwww, how cute!" Y'know, stuff like that that could be either for serious or just said jokingly. I eventually found out my friends didn't care and some of them were slash fans, too (heck, I even found out that one of my guy friends was gay and he wrote some slash for me <3). So the best thing to do is test the waters until you get an idea about where she stands. :)
