Canon or not canon, they're all fictional characters used to entertain our asses, and as long as we're not shoving it down other people's throats, I don't see the problem with that. Ship what you want, there's no need to turn it into something bordering "elite/pretentious."

127. I hate rap with a passion. I can listen to maybe a song or two, but most of it actually makes me feel a little physically ill (I don't know why, something about the thumping base-beat maybe, or just because I don't like the tone and cadance in which most of it is delievered, I don't know).
But bless, I love it when there's nerdrap. When there's nerd rock of any kind. I still like "Lord of the Rhymes" (which was more hip-hop than out-and-out rap, I suppose).

140. Even before I realised how much I hate Hermione in the books (when I started out, she was one of my favs), I hated the way she was done in the movie, with the third being enough to infuriate me. I hated the way she acted in interviews, because she'd casually, unconciously manage to insult just about anyone who ever identified with Hermione, and for saying how much she was like Hermione. But I do also hate the way just about everything she does is suddenly cause to slag her like mad (not saying that's happening here, just that it happens a lot, and I don't know why we should all call her horrible names because there's a photo of her getting a little tight at a birthday party or something).

167. THANK you. I feel this way with a lot of fandoms. I hate Ron/Hermione, everyone automatically assumes I'm a butthurt Harmonian (no, I just genuinely hated the relationship). I don't actually hate Katara/Aang--I think it's cute. I just liked Zutara better. But I still really hate Maiko, and that doesn't have to do with it "getting in the way" of my favourite ship. Something about it just never gelled with me. But saying as much only leads to "wah, your ship was always doomed!"

I am getting really really sick of the smugness of the Kataangers. I'm only on the periphery of online fandom, and it's getting a bit much. Heck, even the creators' joking shoot-down animation was just waaaay too brutal from people who until then had mostly just playfully teased Zutarans.


174. It was the voice for me. I didn't find him sexy until he started talking. Then he was the most important thing in the movie for me.


176. Ugh. More lameness. Seriously, I'm not a slasher. I don't like slash, and I absolutely hate gratuitous slash. That said...Master/Doctor...I'm sorry, the only reason it isn't 100% canon is because the internet would break. And I'm not even saying that because of the excessive foe-yay in LotTL--I'm basing it off watching Six and Ainley!Master play off each other. I don't seek it out or want to read about it...but I think it makes perfect sense.

129. I know. It sucks. (God, I'm not even posting this non-anon because I'm afraid someone will see it and add Presuming I'm More Important Than I Am to my list of crimes. Although I'm sure it's on there already.)

The worst of it for me is that, when I write fic about the things that interest me, I'm accused of Trying To Be Edgy or Trying To Make Myself Look Smart. Why do people have to come up with secret evil motives for everything I do? Why is it so hard to accept that I'm just doing what I honestly enjoy?

167: I. . . have never come across these smug shippers? Iunno, maybe I just lurk in the wrong parts of fandom (doubtful, considering the usual lurkspot is ASN, but it's possible).

Outside of that, and as much as I hate shipping stupidity, I have to say that I can kind of see why they'd want to be smug. For a good part of the show's run, the canon-Zutarans (of which there are a not inconsiderable amount) were convinced that their ship was the ONE TRUE SHIP, and that everyone else was just deluding themselves. After a year+ of seeing things like "Zutara is so much deeper and emotional than Kataang" and "LOL PEDO" (and afterwards, "Bryke only made the ending Kataang to pander to the base"), there's a lot of appeal to being able to point at the final scene and say "LOL NO".

That's not to say that it's a good thing for them to be doing, or even that it's justified. As far as I'm concerned, ALL shippers just need to sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up, and write their ships in peace. Also write more Iroh, because Iroh is the winningest win to ever win.

167. Not to say that there isn't craziness and assholery amongst the Katara/Aang shippers (because oh my god, you can never get away from them in this fandom. It breeds crazy assholes like a Mogwai in a swimming pool) but I'd say the Katara/Aang fanbase has a looooong way to go before they can come anywhere near the levels of crazy assholery found amongst the butthurt canon zutarians.
