167) I'm not a big fan of Kataang, either, though I admit I find myself getting drawn into threads about it here sometimes. Sometimes the things people say in secrets are so irritating/offensive/brain-destroying that I CANNOT HELP MYSELF, though you're right that we should try not to be smug assholes about it, however ridiculous the secret in question may be.

I've been thinking lately that we all need to just...I don't know. Forgive each other? There's so much bad blood in Avatar fandom that's been going on for so long, and I'm sure to outsiders it looks like we're ALL being assholes. But you know...yeah. The cycle has to end somewhere. Hopefully enough of us will learn to move past it that we can finally all get along to some extent again.

The thing is the smug assholery is not limited to one segment. Every side has it, every side tries to one up each other.

I think that if everyone could just say: "You like that? That's okay" without all of the name calling, ship bashing, character bashing, etc. the world would be a good place.

I don't think anyone really has a problem with someone liking one thing over the other. I think it is the lording over and superiority complexes and making others feel bad for enjoying what they like by degrading it is where we get into trouble and is when the claws come out. And that is all sides of the fandom.

154. Personally, I disliked Shirley because, I felt, like the majority of Code Geass women, she was mishandled and anything potentially interesting about her storyline was subsumed by the writers' obsession with having the entire world and everyone in it revolve around Lelouch.

While I think this was a problem with the women in general--and many of the male characters as well--only Shirley seemed entirely consumed by a flat and utterly unconvincing romantic subplot. I felt like bad things happened to her not to make her a stronger, or more nuanced character, but to force reactions out of Lelouch.

So, in short, I didn't like Shirley because I thought she was poorly written and tiresome to watch.

Yes, we fangirls are "bloody nuts" -- but you cannot honestly watch House, M.D. and tell me that House and Wilson aren't canon. Hello, Amber arc much? Hello, season five? Even the actors know it (http://www.alekwasframed.com/green_tea/TVGUIDEJANES4.jpg).

They might not be having sex in the broom closet, but House and Wilson is the most canon and most genuine relationship on that show. So, if you're going to call slash fangirls "bloody nuts" please leave House/Wilson fans out of it.

140. Dear God, yes. Argh! The way she talks, especially, drives me bonkers. That whole, "take a breath-pause to make sure everyone understand how important what you have to say is". STOP IT. And she's been given more prominence than she should. Some of it's the fault of the script-writer, who was basically a Harry/Hermione shipper, and thus was really pushing her into the foreground, to give Harry a "strong" girlfriend. Problem is, she's a sidekick, not the heroine.
