Though you know... maybe Fandom Wank has tainted me, but where are these arrogant Kataangers I always hear about? I mean... I guess they must be out there since I always hear about them. But I'm fairly active in the Avatar fandom and I never see them. I've run into the stereotypical batshit Zutara fans NUMEROUS times, but I've never come across any Kataang fans who were arrogant about their ship. Maybe I'm just lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) or maybe I'm not hanging around in the "right" part of the fandom. I dunno, but I'm skeptical any fandom base for an Avatar ship can be as bad as the Zutara one. (Sorry for the generalization, but I've only met very few who didn't bite my head off for shipping Kataang and Maiko alongside Zutara.)

But of course, in the end, everyone is inferior to Iroh. Everyone.

176. I can more or less understand where you're coming from. I believe on one of the pages the person who asked is if a cannon issue you have or not the thing. Then again, I don't think it has to be homophobia. IF you are disgusted by the thought of two guys being in a relationship that may be a bit homophobic, but at the same time your concern seems legit. I personally am mostly a cannon pairing and generally don't go along with slash unless it has some foundation. Personally, I don't get turned on by two guys making out/having sex. In the relationship form I can find a gay couple adorable, even if they are kissing, but taking it out of the context of something sincere it loses any interest for me. Now, some girls are into that while I don't see the appeal, and that's just the way it is. It doesn't mean that I'm homophobic, it just means I don't have the same sexual fantasies as others. (Especially since I have plenty of gay friends who hate it because it is general a misrepresentation of their actual relationships)

Some fans have been shipping them way before Simm and Tennant. If you have seen any of Pertwee's era there is a lot of subtext.

As does Wilson/House, and Sirius/Remus, esp. in the movie ("Arguing like an old married couple", anyone?). There's a panel from the Batman and Robin comic with them sleeping the the same bed. This was way back (50 or eay 60s, I think), when things were more innocent, and it was intended as such, but still...

None of these couples is canon, but some of them come damn close, and to dismiss them all as slash-goggle fantasy ignores how much subtext the creators themselves intentionally put into these pairings.
