I agree. I watched the whole thing, loved the first season and hated the second. They really had no clue what they were doing with everything they set up in the beginning. And acting like Slaine got a happy ending was a slap in the face. I don't think "Slaine did nothing wrong," but he was much better than certain other main characters who the show showered love on.

I came into the show on the first episodes really liking how Ruyi pulled off the little crossdressing trick in an effort to draw more customers for her love interest (was he named Xu Xian? I honestly forget). I honestly thought she would just be a clever, jokester character. BOY was I surprised (and sad) to see what the writing crew had in plan instead...

Additional thought: Is it just me or does it feel like the first couple of episodes were written by different people than the eoisodes later.

I bought a bundle, that was promoting the 2014 game, just for the original games.
And then I learned that you need mods to get the originals to work on modern laptops(though I hear the GOG version works fine right 'out the box' so that's the best place to get it). Meanwhile the 2014 game runs on like 3 frames per minute on the lowest settings, on my then brand new and well regarded laptop that is can handle some surprisingly hefty games even today.
A reboot that is actually playable would be a good start.

Though yeah, it sucks when a series you like just goes on hiatus indefinitely. Don’t know if it’s better or worse than when one gets an obvious rush ending for whatever reason. But it’s fun to rediscover something and it actually holds up!
