I don't understand the point of genderbends that don't change anything about who the characters are or what happens in the story (except for the genderbends which are obviously to make a popular slash pairing het, which I understand and hate)...
But if you turn a male character female and their life is suddenly much worse and they fail where they succeeded in canon - I think you seriously need to look at yourself.

I don't understand the point of genderbends at all, but I don't see the point of changing their personality just because the gender changes, they just completely become OC's in that case.

IDK if it counts as "changing who the characters are" but I think changing genders can change the way that specific relationship tropes play out and it can strongly affect how the fandom sees the relationship

Fandom: Music Videos? Is that fandom?

Have you ever seen a music video that left you wanting more? SOMETHING? ANYTHING?!

Well, I was finally able to put words to such a desire recently. The music video for Shakira's "Lo Hecho Esta Hecho" ("Did it Again" in English) featuring one of my favorite dancers who I've crushed on since my preteen years (B-Boy Cloud) deserves, nay REQUIRES a fic. Or something. I'm really invested. Their dancing tells a whole damn story (in addition to the words of the song) but my goodness, that one scene where he brings her to her knees with his leg...and then walks up to her...SIGH and SWOON. I just have no one to share this with. And I don't really do RPF...but now...I might have to...

S!B: It's a music video. About a woman falling into the same old tropes of the bad boy. But by Jove, the DANCING!!! Who the even...
B!S: I am also one of those people who enjoys a dance club scene in fics, and I try to sneak one into all my drawer fic. However, I don't think I have ever seen such a scene well done. I must do it for the second hand embarrassment.

I genuinely don't understand why film studios keep buying the rights to books and then putting out poorly-written, terribly-cast abominations with little to no relation to the text. What's the point? They get critically panned, they don't make "real" money, they make the existing book fans angry - wouldn't it just be easier to do it right?

I always heard about "Leatherpants Draco". And I always laughed about it, as I never read the fic in question, but the very idea (brooding, Lord Byron-esque Draco wearing leather pants) was rather droll.

Now...I never thought I'd see such a thing in real life, but there, in the wild, was a man. Wearing leather pants. On the train. To a dance club. And all I could think was LEATHER PANTS DRACO.

I don't know if I can ever take a man wearing leather pants seriously again. Unless he's in a band. And even that...I'll just snicker and think about this.

And yes, I laughed. But he had no idea it was about his pants.

There's a grim amusement, for me, in the failure of Beetlejuice: The Musical. The Musical. The Musical., in spite of strong grassroots support. All these passionate teens making petitions and TikToks and angry tweets about wanting the show to go on - but when push comes to shove, the big money people who make these decisions don't really care.
It's a lesson we all learn sooner or later: Fan passion can save shows from cancellation... but usually it doesn't.

I find the song Want U Back by Cher Lloyd incredibly catchy and fun to listen to. I also find all the OTT facial expressions Lloyd makes in the music video (US version) charming and hilarious. Ditto her pouty, drawling, little-girl voice on some of the lyrics. (“Remembur all the tings that you and oi did fuuirst?”)

S!B - The whole song is just incredibly shallow, catty, bratty, and judgmental. It’s like a caricature of all the worst “girly” stereotypes or something. (In defense of Lloyd, she didn’t write it.)

I guess I just have a thing for bratty earworms?

There’s a line in Don’t Blame Me by Taylor Swift that goes, “Just play things for me to use.” It’s about the older guys she’s dated being “playthings,” but when I first heard the song I thought the sentiment was directed at a co-writer. Like, she just had a messy split, and the tabloids are talking about it everywhere, and she’s emotionally exhausted—but she has songs to get finished damn it. So she’s in the studio with a co-writer/producer, and all she wants is for Jack Antonoff or whoever to play things for her to use (in her songs). Like the song writing is an escape from the turmoil of her personal life.

In context this is obviously not what the line means, but I honestly like my reading a lot more, and am sad the line is actually just Taylor pretending to be a vamp.

SB - Idk, it’s T-Swift? I’m over-thinking it? My version is weird?

As a Youtuber increases in popularity, their videos often increase in length - in my opinion, inversely proportional to their actual quality. So every time a channel I like starts posting longer and longer videos, I start glancing towards the "Unsubscribe" button.

I ship Anne Shirley/Gilbert Blythe from the Anne With An E version, but I can’t help feeling like he’s too good for her? Part of it is that he’s so selfless and mature, while she often comes across immature and sometimes selfish in her immaturity. Also, I just find her a lot less good looking than him.

Immature, passable-looking dudes constantly get paired up with hot, mature women in fiction, so I hate that I struggle to buy it when the genders are reversed. But I can’t help it. There’s always a part of me thinking, “Okay, but why would he by so in love with her?”

I wish instead of all the plotlines I thought were boring, badly written or just personally uncomfortable, HBO's Rome had devoted an entire episode (or more!) to an extended scene of Brutus and Antony fuckin. I think that would have really improved the show. Thanks for reading my humble suggestion

Star Trek: I don't think there's really any chance of CBS indulging The Premise or Bi!Kirk beyond carefully seeded rumors. And yet another TOS reboot is my least favorite Trek idea now that we have Disco, Pike, and Kelvin Timeline.

If we're going to stay in the TOS era, why not revive Doctor M'Benga and the hospital ship series?

Have a lot of work to catch up on, and also reading webtoons. But I'm trying to shift the dynamic so they become a reward and not a distraction. MY discipline is below the floor at this point.

I made an appointment for a covid test this Friday (no symptoms but I went to a protest Saturday and my county is encouraging asymptomatic people to get tested) and I keep thinking of ancient Egyptians removing brains from corpses during the embalming process. This is not helping.

I wish my county was also offering one of the more reliable serum tests for prior infection. There are private companies offering some kinds in my area, but information on the accuracy rate or even the version of the serum tests they’re offering is spotty and hard to find.

I’m going to bed early and may call in to work tomorrow because my sinuses are acting up. Fucking allergies. (No, those aren’t COVID, they’re a constant from late spring to early fall.)

Was okay. Went out to get my car inspected and also run a few errands. Payed some bills. meant to sort some music, but ended up watching a whole bunch of Judge Rinder videos on Youtube instead. Also spent some time being excited about the Supreme Court decision on LGBTQ employment discrimination and annoyed about the decision not to take up the issue of police indemnity.

I hear about the job, one way or another, tomorrow. Nervous. Hope I can sleep.

My cat is currently asleep on top of my right foot. I don't have the heart to move her, so I guess I'm going to sleep on my back, which I never do most of the time.
