I agree. Completely. I had that suspicion after watching the film, and through a discussion with an LJ friend, I've come to think that this is quite likely. I've bought the novel and plan to read it over winter break to see if I'll find something to support this hypothesis; if I do, I want to write a story from Hakan's point of view exploring this possibility.

That said, I still believe that Oskar and Eli can have the possibility for something more. I like to think that her choosing to leave him, and only coming back in his moment of need, these things may show that, through helping Oskar, Eli has changed. If so, their relationship is especially more beautiful for it.

Oh my god I really needed someone to talk to about this. It walked out of the movie all pleased and excited and like a day later stopped dead in my tracks and was... oh... right. I mean, I agree about them still having the potential to be something more. Eli definitely seems different with Oskar and I would love to think that she is going to treat him differently. It just really freaked me out wondering if he was just a replacement.

That said I would pretty much love to see what you come up with after reading the novel. I don't know if I could handle that myself. And a slightly sillier question, is there a fandom for this somewhere?

Haha, I hate Horatio so much. I don't think there is a single character in anything ever that I make fun of more than him. I can't even watch the show anymore. Every time the theme comes on I just have to change the channel and "UGH I HATE HORATIO CAINE" vocally. He's way too over-dramatic, predictable, the acting is godawful, and his character just feels so fake.

But to be fair, I don't think it's Horatio, I think it's that Caruso is a godawful actor and a drama queen in his private life.

I think that Rachel could sing, but god was I glad she got voted off. Talent sure, but 95% of the people on that show (Rachel included and a major one), have some sob story, which sure is sad to hear, but the X factor is a TALENT show. (Although it's totally popularity D:) It should go on talent, not who can dedicate a song to who this week and gain the publics sympathy.

Every other sentence out of her mouth was about her kids and she even turned her being voted off as all about her past, like that was the reason. That was the reason she stayed in so long. It's because she isn't young and pop-y and someone who most of the viewers who watch the show and vote, would vote for that she didn't win.

Not to mention she came off as a bitch. And I only started watching half way through and that was my first impression. If she got crit she'd put a face on. She got slack in the paper, they all do - she cries for sympathy. They all do it!
