See, I've been in the fandom since the start, and it used not to be this bad. There *are* smart fans still in it, but either they're people who have never written fic, or they have things going on in RL that means they're not producing fic. So if you look at our comms it's not exactly representative. (Now there's all the fangirling over Angell because she's 1) "non-threatening" and 2) has no personality, so they can self-insert--which is the case whether they realize it or not--and it's driving me insane.)

I miss my fandom, dammit. And I've had it up to here ^ with people calling Stella/Mac "Smacked" and I'm going to have to say something public about how offensive it is.

You see, it's hard for me to look at the word "Rocketshipping" with out seeing "Anti-" in front of that. Damn you, Pokemopolis... fuck 'em. They are such hateful people. Thisssss. Weirdly, though, I totally love Rocketshipping/KojiMusa for that manga, but can't bring myself to do it for the anime. I tried, and got the warm fuzzies at the end of the Jessebelle episode, even! But somehow, looking back, I think they were always like... my first gay role models. Both of them. D: EVEN IF THEY WEREN'T CANONICALLY, I totally can't unsee it at this point. They were just so fabulous and I will love it forever (and I think my heart broke a little when I heard the writers had them both stop crossdressing with their disguses in later seasons, BAW).

Hearing that made me go "WTF MARVEL!?" because yes, things can always go crappy in a comic universe, but what kind of message were they trying to send? What kind of world were they trying to create? Are they just setting themselves up for a magnanimous retcon in the (hopefully) not-so-distant future? It's because of mindfucks like these that I can't read comics as often as I used to.

149 - Oh, me neither. I wail on behalf of the characters sometimes. Sometimes if a character gets truly humiliated, I'll even be humiliated too. It's quite a funny (and weird) feeling.

160 - Yikes, you're scaring me from my inevitable fic hunt. I'm mostly with you on your points, OP... I do like Mac/Stella romance, but so much of it tends to butcher Stella's character, because inevitably her "weakness(es)" has/have to be showcased. So I haven't gone searching for it in a while, and as I'm watching (and catching up with; I'm new to the fandom), I think: "If Mac/Stella became canon, it might ruin them for me, but I still don't like the thought of either of them with anyone else." It's not that I don't want their characters to be happy, I just think they're better suited for each other as "pillars of support" than anyone else. If you take out the sexual element, they already act like married couple most of the time.

161 - Wow, lots of CSI: NY secrets today, mm? Or at least I think this one's CSI: NY. In any case, I'm new to the fandom, and I'd love a guide! It sucks that your friends are jumping ship, but the appeal of CSI is that it always brings new people in, and... well, I'm one of them! So don't think of it totally as a lost cause. What's that old nursery rhyme-- "make new friends, and keep the old (ones)?" Yeah, I'm a cheeseball tonight. :P

164 - I use OTP to reference the folks up in my icon, Seto Kaiba x Anzu Mazaki. But were you to ask me who my OTP was, oh, 10 years ago, when Yu-Gi-Oh! had yet to be dubbed and brought to the States, I'd have answered "Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba from Sailor Moon." But tastes change. I still like Usagi and Mamoru, but now I ALSO ship Usagi x Seiya-- which hardly makes Usagi x Mamoru my OTP anymore, does it? So you CAN have a "new" OTP if, for some reason, you don't feel the "true" in your old OTP anymore, right? Plus, I think you can have OTPs in different fandoms. Seto x Anzu is just mine for the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom, but I have different ones for other fandoms-- that's not a crime, right? Unless my tastes change, I see myself liking those pairings LOOOONG into the future, hence the "OTP" label right now.

b) I keep finding situations where people would still rather something (in this case, the doctor) be male and black than female. Which is both racist and sexist. I would love a female doctor - hey lets do both at once and make her a black female that would be fucking badass.

It's canon that people regenerate into the same gender, but not the same looks. Personally I do not think a sex change is realistic; gender is an important part of who a person is that you can't just change. But I am all over a black Doctor. That would be awesome.

You can decide that's sexist if you want to, but I think it's canon. Canon has shown us time lords regenerating as male and time ladies regenerating as female--Rani, Romana, &c.

102. O-kay. Just gonna say that not all slash is a cult. People will pretty much always ship characters if they A)like their interactions enough, or if the characters are B)hot together (in the opinion of that particular fan). And it's interesting to think of non-canon ways that characters can interact with each other. It does change things if they're best friends, honorary family, actually related, friendly rivals, not so friendly rivals, enemies, in love, just banging, etc., and that can be incredibly fun to just... mess around with to see what happens.

Don't worry so much about the genetalia. Ship what you find compelling as a ship for the reasons you find it compelling. The way characters interact, their personalities -- it's a lot more important than "the cult of slash," or, as I have seen around almost as much lately, "the cult of completely anti-slash all the time ever." All of that said, that is actually a pretty cool sounding theory, though I don't know the series. Heard of it, but don't watch it, I mean. Sounds interesting!

A lot of people skip over secrets that aren't for the things they're interested in. It just seems kind of smug and "look at me being so special~" to wave it around, but in the end it's not a big deal. But yeah, the rest of it, IAWTS. I love live action and American cartoons and American comic books and Japanese anime and manga. And also stuff from other countries! Not all of one medium or everything from one country can or should be painted with the same brush.

117. Well, if we're only getting into a series because of something as shallow as character design, sure. I personally love the animes I love because of the characters personalities, relationships, and the actual plot. And usually when I especially love an anime's art, it either has a pretty (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/KravinMorhead/lain012.jpg) far (https://www.madman.com.au/wallpapers/hellsing_ova,_1_269_1280.jpg) from (http://img272.imageshack.us/img272/4945/gankutsuou2ml.jpg) generic (http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9232/msbadassjn1.png) style; an especially beautiful (http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z89/ino1393/Hell_Girl.jpg), detailed (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v519/liljetjennie/Blog%2008/5cm1.jpg) one; or is just... extremely sweet and "traditional" style (see every Studio Ghibli movie and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, though the last also falls into sakjfhakjf detailed and gorgeous).

Point being, not all anime looks exactly alike like that. And most of us? Don't watch it just for the character designs, though the style definitely grows on you. If you're going to get into a series, why not worry about more than how the characters are drawn? Some of those characters can be pretty awesome and interesting, and some of the plots can be great.

(Also, just as a note, I do like the art in that top picture despite it being so generic -- it's nothing special, and the body shape of the girl on the far left is waaaay exaggerated, but I do love the emotions that can be expressed through their faces, there -- and I have to admit I have a fondness for at least the face shape and expression of character design for the girl on the far right. The bottom picture, however, looks really awkward to me, I'm not sure why. Their face shapes, something about their expressions? I'd be interested in knowing what it's about, though.)

D: I had a sex dream about one of my friends before, and it was really weird considering that, while she's very pretty, she's not really my type and our personalities just don't mesh -- I was never attracted to her that way. I just sorta wrote it off as my brain being weird; probably a release of newer sexual tension (it was YEARS ago) combined with the fact that I'd thought about her or hung out with her recently, idek. Point being, it's not like you can control it, so don't be hard on yourself.

I think they're just referring to the fact that a piece of shit, as you refer to it (not gonna toss my own judgement as I haven't actually read the thing), is so goddamn ALL-OVER-THE-PLACE-POPULAR, while something that can be totally, completely, utterly brilliant has a fanbase of like, a hundred people total in the country. That can be really frustrating.
