I picked up my needles, and began LOVING knitting again. I'm knitting a blanket.

101 The phrase "social commentary veiled in harmless science fiction" made me LOL, since science fiction has always had a reputation for social and ethical commentary.

112 I like Seth Rogen and Jason Segel, and even James Franco to some extent, but I couldn't really get into that show, mostly because I hate hate hate HATED the main character (all the best plots were about the geeks, anyway).

Wait. What? Who ruined it for you? Because I've been in Flashpoint fandom since the beginning and it has very little fic and even people who slash in the fandom are also all about TEAM (Yay, team!). So, explain? (And I'm hoping that you have a problem with the het-shipping as well as the slash-shipping if it's your 'happy teamy gen place'.)

Also, pretty much every episode makes me cry. That is the awesome that is this show.

134; I think those secrets are cute. And I think most people know their relationships aren't exactly alike, just have some points in common (the insanely obsessive people, that I'm not touching). Everyone has their own opinions, obviously, but I couldn't resist commenting because seriously, some "x to my y" secrets or things people have said have seriously made me "aaaw" IRL ^^; /lame.

Technically "harmless science fiction" has always been a vehicle for social commentary and criticism (hell, look at H.G. Wells, the genre's founding father). Serling at the top of his game did it just about as well as the best of them, but he wasn't the first or the best.

Not that this in any way means that I don't fangirl Rod Serling to a ridiculous degree, please don't get me wrong (Twilight Zone is like my crack). I just get a little het up at the all-too-common attitude that sci-fi didn't start having important things to say until late in its existence as a genre, or that it still doesn't.
