I don't think it was that Akito would've been more interesting as a male, it was just how badly written the series had gotten up to that point. I can't see how someone can considered those two as the best couple of the series when they were very willing to sleep around with others to get back at each other unless they like fucked up couples.

Which is a shame because Furuba had a really strong first half.

I was hoping someone else felt that way. I haven't finished it yet either - my b/f keeps asking me why, and I keep giving him the old 'exploring everything' excuse.
I played until he died and then couldn't carry on. I just re-started and keep running around refusing to do the second Jefferson Memorial quest.
It's an awesome game, and I love it to pieces, but I love the storyline - way more interesting than the last two, and James is a really interesting character...

(BTW, if you're reading this, secret poster, I'd love if you messaged me to talk about the game. The only people I know who're playing it are playing it purely from the FPS point of view and have barely noticed the characters...)

Dude, I've beaten the game exactly once and that part was like a gut-punch. I can't quite make myself do it again - I've got two more games stalled out right about there and I definitely end up sidetracking myself on purpose.

I'm not the OP but I'd definitely be interested in talking about plot and characters. I don't know anyone else who's played it, which is depressing.

Sorry, have to disagree with you. Burn Gorman (and Naoko Mori) were the best actors on the show. While I love John's personality, he overacts and is a drama queen. He's a nice guy though, and loves what he does, he's just a cheeseball (but we love that about him).

137 - Have you tried this (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1690622/1/Dont_Panic)? It is seriously one of the best fanfictions I've ever read. The first bits are slightly odd, but the amount of detail and planning this writer puts into this fanfic is incredible. The plot is a genius spin on an old idea, and throws in even more surprises to keep things interesting. :)

163 - I liked L before the movies, but it was the way Matsuyama portrayed him that has kept me interested in the character :)

137 - Thanks for that fic link. It's totally not the sort of thing I would normally go for, esp the first few sentences totally put me off, but I'm full of fangirly glee and loving it.

I hate that I arrived at the fandom in it's decline and have missed all the best fics from the heyday of LotR fandom. :((((

Oh and to the OP I think the fact that all the good writers have left is exactly why the remaining writers are bad. In the beginning those fics wouldn't have been read as much because there was better out there. Now that's the best there is and we take what's available. If you know what I mean.
I'd love some recs of old great fics if you have any.

And to other's asking, I assume "cat-fics" are just category fics eg writing angst just to write an angst story rather than cos you have an original plot/story. You write angst or humour or pwp just to fulfil the need for that type of story.
