108. Um, so that would make it... just like everything in real life? Srsly, man up and we'll probably like you just fine.

(Damn, I haven't been that cold since Hellsing fandom.)

(Anonymous) 2008-12-16 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it just seems somewhat worse because of f!s though.

I mean, I still post and everything, I just get unreasonably nervous.

[identity profile] gethenian.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
118. Well... what kind of characters do you play?

132. You are smart, see. To be totally honest, I question the validity of any political discussion held in any online forum. I assume most people taking part are either trolls or too immature to properly edit/screen whatever's coming out of their keyboard. This is ESPECIALLY true when the discussion is being held in a forum not intended as a basis for political discussion. When I'm in a fandom-based place and they start going all political or religious, I just STFU and ignore them. It's no different than those "news" programmes that consist of 4 or 5 people sitting around trying to talk over one another so you can't hear anything anyone says and nothing ever gets accomplished or communicated.

156. I have Bejewelled on my cellphone for the same reason. When I need to think or take a time-out from THE WORLD, I go into the bathroom and play it until I feel sane again.

169. Agreed. Add to that, I can't figure out how to cancel my fucking account there. That site makes my head hurt.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-16 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
156 op - This is such a good idea.

121-Ummmm....Mazel Tov?

141-Cute! You don't get Keith and/or Rachel? Really? I ship the whole network like burning.

149-I'm not sayiing there the be-all and end-all of fanfic, but well-done drabbles can actually convey ALL OF THAT and pack a killer blow as well.

158-Clive is a freakin' force of nature in that scene.

149

[identity profile] mollywobbles867.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I used to hate drabbles...until I started writing them. They're a good writing exercise, especially if you're limited to 100 words. You have to make each word mean something, which will help when writing longer pieces, especially when describing someone's feelings. I've found they've helped both in fanfic and in my original stuff. Most people who write drabbles write long fic too.

[identity profile] aceles.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
149. Wow. Way to make a gross generalization about a form of writing. That's like telling someone what they write isn't art because it's open poetry, or a short story instead of a book. I've read some incredible drabbles that said more in a few hundred words than alot of the million chapter fanfics due in all their text. Maybe you're reading the wrong drabbles. Sometimes, a few hundred words is all you need.

170. I DIDN'T KNOW ANYONE EVER REMEMBERED THAT MOVIE.

I LOVE THAT MOVIE.

(Anonymous) 2008-12-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've always thought drabbles were good writing exercises personally. Because of the word limit, they also teach you to cut the fluff and stick to only neccessary details. I admire anyone who is able to get across a full story in 100 words.

For the record, even print magazines have 50-word stories and 100-word drabbles so obviously, it is a writing form used in the professinal publishing world as well.

Writing is writing. Doesn't matter how long or short it is.

[identity profile] negiramenofdoom.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
118 - if I may do some pimpage (classy, I know), [livejournal.com profile] montwick_rp doesn't have much going on yet, if you don't mind panfandom. Also, if your secret is any indication, your English is perfectly fine. ♥

(Anonymous) 2008-12-20 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind panfandom at all. :) Thank you for the recommendation, and thank you for the compliment ... I'm getting good marks in the English tests, but because my pronounciation isn't quite the best I have this weird feeling that I have no grasp on grammar or spelling either.

106. Oooh, she's hot. *_* Who is she again?

112. IAWTC on the UK>US part... initially. I'm a little ashamed to say that I watched the US mostly cuz it was longer and with more sexin'. I used to ship Brian/Michael back in the days - weird, yes?

122. >_<; same... but I kinda liked the ending anyway. They're so sweet together... <3

125, 153. Awww. X3 Cute Hetalia secrets! These are like balm on salt-rubbed wounds from the last two days. Thank you, anons! MOAR LIKE THIS. <3 (And Arthur is made of WIN. XD LOL at icon match! Can I has the clean picture, please? *__*)

127. Ho-hoo~ X3 That looks nice indeed! But do not loose faith. Isn't promo what you posted this secret for? (and I'm glad you did... I get most fandoms that way~ :D)

151. Digimon - retro? NEVAH! XD I say cosplay TK, go to a con and see what happens. Isn't cosplay meant to be for fun? Also, don't starve, man. It's never a good solution.

159. Uh. *cringes*

166. You have piqued my interest, anon! *u*

169. This. ... don't hate me, f!list! >_<

171. *le gasp!* I smell trolling/possible random uproar to suddenly make KH fanfickers claw each-other's eyes out! D8 Do not fall for this foul trick!

Not!fandom #1. That explains a lot of secrets lately. :3

Not fandom #3. Troll Doing ; Leave Review?

Yeah... the ending didn't deter me from declaring it my favorite anime series. That was 10+ years ago and the decision still stands.

Cameron Diaz. :D

153 - That's the saddest, most pathetic thing I've ever seen. You might as well dress up any interchangable ~*~tsundere bishi~*~* with eyebrows and call it the UK, who cares what the actual country is like, right?

OH WAIT, HETALIA ALREADY DID THAT FOR YOU.

149

(Anonymous) 2008-12-16 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
If a fic writer's body of work consists of 90% drabbles, then I agree with you, but I think drabbles are good for flushing out the earwax, so to speak. It gets rid of any junky ideas clogging your brain. But I would never post a drabble to a comm unless it was specifically a drabble comm, and even then, I'd post two or three at a time. It seems like such a waste of a post, otherwise.

Re: 149

[identity profile] ronsard.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
You know, the second half of your comment really summarizes my approach to writing and sharing shorter stories. I'm not sure if it's insecurity on my part or just the general MOAAAAR attitude that fandom is largely afflicted with, but I always feel more comfortable seeing a group of drabbles in one post.

That said, if someone is really good at writing drabbles/shorts and actually crap at longer stories (obviously, they would have to try writing a longer story in order to verify this), I see no reason why their entire body of work shouldn't comprise of drabbles.

127. Lol, do you have a link to that gif? It's hilarious. But yeah, agreeing with you on this one. A lot.

144. Pedophilia? Seriously? D:

152. THIS. xD

163. Oh shit he does.

[identity profile] rhoux.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
169. Lol, this is a stupid secret. I could say I don't get why people play Halo, because you don't actually get anything from it. But I don't. Because people like different things, and that's not a hard thing to fathom.

Anyways I started playing 7 years ago, when I was a kid, and just kept coming back to my account. I find it's a nice way to unwind after a long day and I've made some good friends there.

111

[identity profile] lurkerbunny.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. The first time I read that comic, I became immensely depressed. Now, reading it over again, knowing people missed the point, I am depressed again.

Are there any really nice guys out there who aren't, y'know, "Nice Guys"?

Or should I just become a nun? (Which of course would also mean becoming religious -_-;)

They do exist! There aren't many of them but they do exist. My friend is marrying one and my roommate is one. Both are kind, funny, sweet men.

[identity profile] that-1-incident.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
116 - JEZ I ADORE YOU. Please marry me now. Okay, thanks.

[identity profile] witchling.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure you mean "drabble", "prose" and "development". Also? Fuck off. As someone who writes both drabbles and epic length, multi-chaptered fic I can say, categorically, they are both difficult. Simmer down.

QQ, princess

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
109: I find this a really sweet secret, aww.

165

[identity profile] ms-erupt.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Everything about this secret is EPIC.

149

(Anonymous) 2008-12-16 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Conversely, I find that so much of the longer fanfic I try to read these days is absolutely dreadful because of the author's inability to self-edit. They start with a flimsy idea, at best, and then pad it endlessly by repeating the same basic scene and dialogue over and over, ad nauseam. The huge, multi-chaptered fics are especially bad about this (many of them start out okay and then quickly degenerate a few chapters in.) Most of these authors would benefit, I think, from writing drabbles for a while, in order to train themselves to:
1) Eliminate unnecessary words
2) Stick to the story at hand and not stray pointlessly
