158 - I've found some good stuff on ff.net, but generally speaking, most of it's really bad. Of course, plenty of great writers started out there and moved and improved, so I can't hate on it too much. Still, I have to say that the rest of it - formatting of links, etc, is something I am very picky about: if someone has gone out of their way to alter the text of their fic so it's bigger, in bold for no reason, or in a color other than black without legit reason, that pretty much tells me to skip it.

I made that my goal when I started out, and, even if I didn't wind up making one of the best stories in my fandom, the whole experience of writing it made a much better writer of me. I'm pretty sure you have some pretty strong nostaglia glasses going on. Atsuko Nakajima, Haruhiko Mikimoto, and Michi Himeno are few of the character designers that were repeatedly used over and over and just as much diversity as a character designer of today. In the area of character designs, attitude towards it never changed: get a selected few of character designers and use them over and over again for a period of time.

I would want to know what, if anything, made him the way he was, too. But I'm more inclined to think that he was just crazy to start with. (No idea why, it just fits.)

I'm mostly curious about how he managed to level out, too. I always thought he just sort of matured and learned to handle it/"got better"/"grew out of it." But there are other factors at work, too. Spirit said that it was his responsibility to contain him, so what would he have done, exactly? Also, I like thinking that he found science, which gave him a healthy outlet for things. And a not so healthy one, too. I can't help but think that the thing that made him less outwardly aggressive and destructive was turning it inward and performing experiments on himself.

121. I just loved the seeming reversal, where Zuko was the calmer one speaking words of peace, and Katara was out for blood. Perfectly in character, but nowhere near what you would've expected it to come to watching the first ep. Poor Toph and her not getting a cool Zukophiphany.
